Insulated conservatory roof

Hello. I am just wondering if anyone has experience of these insulated conservatory roofs and if they are any use. The house I bought has a polycarbonate roof getting near the end of its life I think. Personally I can't stand conservatories but I'm stuck with it as can't afford a proper extension any time soon. Looking to maybe get a few quotes, no idea how much they normally are. This isn't a large conservatory, and it's one of those stupid shapes that I never understand why people pick
Thanks
Thanks

There's a number of previous threads on here on that issue - please try a search for 'insulated' 'conservatory' 'roof' and variations thereon.

We had our conservatory roof replaced by a lightweight solid roof and certainly don't regret doing so. Our conservatory is 14' x 10' with pitched roof. We paid £8k for that just over 2 years ago. Work done by a local contractor who was on the approved list of the roof manufacturer. The company who built the original conservatory wanted almost twice the price for the identical product so make sure you do shop around.

An old neighbour had it done & regretted it as it made their room adjoining the conservatory very dark2

That was a concern of mine tbh. I think it could make the adjoining sitting room dark. But at the moment it's just a waste of space tbhbabyblade41 said:An old neighbour had it done & regretted it as it made their room adjoining the conservatory very darkAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0 -
We were quoted and decided just to replace the whole thing with a new conservatory with solid roof. Paid £8k deposit and the company went bust. Thankfully we paid via credit card so got our money back but we’ve since decided they are such a waste of money and space that we’ll just remove it next month and have a new patio instead.30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.1

The previous owners had a proper roof put onto their conservatory, and it’s made it much more usable. It has two roof windows (like velux) in it, so it still lets plenty of daylight in, and they also put in an air con unit (with a heat pump exchange) so it’s pretty affordable to keep warm and cool.1

Regarding the potential of a solid roof making the adjoining room dark - as mentioned, our conservatory does have a pitched roof so the far wall does have a large glass triangular area over the doors which allows more light in anyway. We also had one glazed section in the roof, which in hindsight probably wasn't necessary for us. If the conservatory has a pent roof (almost flat it could be more beneficial. We did consider Velux but they would have been over £1k dearer.1
