Hi all

I've moved from one council property to another council property. The place has been modified from an office into a disabled bungalow.
Edf supply the property as a commercial building. I need to change the property into my name and from commercial to residential.
After 18 calls to edf and twice as many to the council to say I cant change it into my I'm still not getting any joy. This has been going on since the 6th of dec 2022.
I very concerned I'm going to get a very big bill from edf and being charged at comershal rates.
I cant work because of being in a wheelchair and very worried.
Anybody help with what i can do.

Thanks

Have you contacted your local councillor - council should have sorted this before you moved in ?

Put the money you expect the bill to be to one side so you are able to pay when they can bill you correctly.

I assume the property has an energy meter and you read the meter when you moved in?

Just keep aside the money you would have spent on electricity (use the meter readings then work out the cost using their tariff per kWh for a residential property) then pay it when it gets sorted out.

Put the money into a savings account and make earn interest on it! You'll get a decent return at the moment so the longer they take to sort it out, the more you'll earn in interest. Just make sure it's one you can access the money from when it is needed!

It's their mistake, so I wouldn't stress about it and just make sure you put the correct amount aside.

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Ouch - yes, I can understand your concern.

I'd go for a twin pronged approach - a complaint to EDF as mentioned above, plus a complaint to the council as this really should have been sorted prior to you taking occupancy. Personally I would suggest that the council should make things right so that you are not out of pocket as a result.

Could you try sending EDF a copy of your council tax bill which should show it is now a residential property?

  • Thankyou for the replys.

Edf cant find the address as being one of there properties that they supply. They are saying it is Scottish power. Scottish power are saying it is edf. The council are saying its edf. The last reply I got from the coucil was friday and they are saying that edf dont believe the adress has changed to the adress that is now registered with royal mail.
Phoned edf today they dont recognize this adress and wont talk to me about the old office adress. Edf are also saying I wont be charged for electric until it is in my name(residential) because I'm not a commercial user.

    From a post by @MattMattMattUK

    In another thread

The "national grid" supply everyone as it all goes through their network, but who your energy supplier is is more complicated. You can find who your supply is registered with using the links below.

    https://www.findmysupplier.energy/
    https://www.energynetworks.org/customers/find-my-network-operator

That may tell you who the system thinks should be billing you.  If nothing else - it might provide more definitive information for the EDF or SP conversations - if you can find yoursel - not the business address.

  • Hi edf do supply this property but it's a commercial property paid by the council. The council still havent transferred it over to residential yet. When I do someone from wdf that does agree they supply the property. They have told me that because it's being charge as a commercial dwelling and you dont get the government grant for it being a residential property. Untill it has been changed over properly by the coucil they will have to pay. And then when it can go into your name as a residential property that's when you will charged from then. Is that correct or what am I responsible for as a bill ?

    Thanks

Get all this in writing from the Council.

Until such a time as you are responsible then you have nothing to pay.
