What tools should I replace?

So you’re all probably thinking that it’s a silly question but my son has moved into his own house recently and my better half gave him our lawnmower as they didn’t have one. I didn’t protest as it was 14 year old so I replaced it with a cordless Makita lawnmower.
The issue comes when I have a load of Dewalt kit that has been used in various house renovations over the last 12 years - combi drill, SDS, Jogsaw, chop saw and driver.
We’ve now given them the most of this as I’ve bought a Makita combi drill and driver, and kept the SDS as it’s a corded Makita.
Should I buy another jigsaw and multitool if I see bare models for sale at a decent price?
What do you all have?

If you see tools that you are genuinely likely to need, it make sense to buy them at a discount.

How often did you use the old ones/how much renovation do you plan in the future? Is there a tool library in your area? How easily could you borrow them back from your son if you need them? How much storage space do you and he have?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Sensible answer is :- It depends on what sort of jobs you're expecting to tackle.
Or alternatively just buy whatever takes your fancy when you see a good Makita offer on a tool you don't already have - it's bound to come in handy one day!1 -
Tools are one of my weaknesses ( I have 3 routers, compound mitre saw, bandsaw, table saw, 2 jigsaws, multi tools, electric planer, belt sander, detail sander and 4 different drills ! - and thats just the wordworking power ones...). I don't think you can ever have too many if you think they are going to come in handy at some point.
I think a decent multitool and jigsaw will always get used at some point, so if you see a decent deal are worth picking up. Screwfix and Toolstation often have some good offers on.
If you do a lot of woodworking, then a bandsaw is very useful3 -

Not much storage space as have just converted the garage to an additional room.

most of my stuff is black and decker. its handy having all same make because the batteries are interchangeable. I like to have tools n stuff, so that when something goes wrong or wants repairing, I can do it. if you call out trades people, you talking £200 a day roughly speaking.1

Looking round a house, the lady owner showed us a small cupboard. “This is where my husband keeps his tools.” So, we won’t be buying that house, as the tool storage is totally inadequate. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?2

I love tools too - but especially the sort that will work for ever, especially really well made old ones. Cordless things just die too soon. And hand tools are often so much cheaper, as well as sometimes being more versatile, if slower. But I live in a place with community workshops and tool libraries so get to use all the big tools if I choose without needing to buy or house them!
