  • So, is there a programmer near the boiler? If there is, then this would have to be 'on'.
I didn't see any. I will check around again later. The boiler is in the loft, so I might have missed it.

I thought normally it is the room thermostat do that kind of scheduled heating.

does that knob 'feel' ok? The same as the one above? Or is it 'loose'?
It feels okay. I can see the boiler display showing the temperature is changing when rotate the knob.

Next, when you turn the DT90 up and down, does a flame symbol appear on the screen? If so, any click' as it appears and disapps?
Is DT90 the thermostat? I only tried to turn it up. I can see the flame symbol on thermostat display, but I didn't hear any clicking sounds. I only hear clicking sounds when I turn off and turn on the thermostat.

Is there a battery symbol showing?
No battery warning signs are showing or flashing.

    Ok, thanks for that.

Yes, the DT is only a room stat - it won't turn your CH on and off at set times. For that you need a timer, or 'programmer'. If your boiler is in the loft, then it's unlikely to be there (if you have one), as you'd ideally want good access to it. So also check your kitchen, or rooms directly under the boiler.

There might not be one, of course! But, if there is, it's the most likely reason your boiler ain't working.

Ok, the DT 'clicks' when pressed on and off? What if the set temp is turned down so the flame disappears - does it still click with on and off?

I said before I had this boiler for 10 years. The boiler programmer for timers would be on the boiler in that blank plate if you had it, unless they have installed another one downstairs somewhere, so look all over.

The radiator symbol will only show when the heating demand is activated, so it seems like your thermostat isn't doing it's job and telling the boiler to fire up or you have a timer somewhere and it's set to off for heating.
Even if all your rads were set to 0, flicking y thermostat normally would get you a radiator symbol.
All things point to the thermostat being broken or you not using it correctly or a hidden timer switch.

Ah I would also expect there to be a seperate timer somewhere in the house. Have a good hunt around as it may not be mounted on a wall if its a wireless one so they could have left it in a drawer somewhere and not thought to leave it out.  My boiler has a combined wireless timer / thermostat so can be put anywhere in the house.

If it is wired, look for another wire coming out of the boiler ( other than the mains power supply ) and see if you can trace which room they go to.

It may look something like the pic below. It could be this is actually set to off, so even if the thermostat is working then it wouldn't fire up the heating. If the boiler is like mine, the radiator symbol only actually comes on when the heating is in operation.

Last resort, you could try and get in contact with the seller and ask them how to do it, maybe via the estate agent who sold it as they will have their contact details?

Ditto on reaching out to the seller. They might have accidentally packed it.

Forgot to add, if it does have a wireless timer, there may be a seperate receiver next to the boiler, this will have wires going into the boiler and is often a small plastic box with a couple of buttons on, it will also be plugged or wired into the mains somewhere. Something like this

I sent an email yesterday to the agent. Hopefully the seller is still willing to help and would reply.

    Oh, no..

  • I know absolutely nothing about this but can I just ask a dumb question.............if there has been absolutely no gas used in a whole month and a half are you sure the gas is actually switched on?  Surely the boilers pilot light will burn some gas even if it's a miniscule amount?
  • I found a manual for the timer/programmer. But I don’t see the device anywhere.

    I’ll search around again.
