... Tell you what I'll try another one now ... watch this space. --> @throughtheblue Well it performed a soft and hard check despite my opting out of the arranged overdraft, and this time it said 'We're doing a few more checks' ... we'll let you know, whereas previously it opened the accounts immediately. BTW I applied within internet banking.

Thanks. I may contact Nationwide, as it seems unnecessary to me given my active banking, accounts I hold and time I've been with them.
I'm ok with one hard search when I switch, but not two in quick succession, so I'll probably avoid the switch if I can't work a way round the hard search.
I thought I would just give you an update ...
... that Nationwide Flexaccount I applied for Saturday, I received the account opening details this morning. So that's four I've now opened without issue. Although they are doing a soft and hard check, maybe its a bit flaccid if you say no to the arranged overdraft.

BTW I've just applied successfully for a Santander Everyday Current Account, my third in the last month. There was no credit check, nor ID check, again I opted out of the arranged overdraft ... maybe worth a try. I should point out that I have an eSaver with online banking, so they do know me.
BTW2 Heard about the Halifax switch offer ?
Thanks for the update - just clocked the halifax switch offer.
I'll look at the details. I was going to go for the first direct to access there regular saver but I think I've had one too recently, so may opt for Natwest.
I was going to use Starling Bank as a dummy account as I don't think they'll run a hard check.

... just to mention others rate Monza.

Tried to apply for Monzo last night, but because it won't let me enter my address manually, it won't allow me to proceed with the application as it doesn't think I'm in the UK when I click 'address not listed'.

The place I rent is a relatively new build, previously a holiday cottage on the grounds of another home, and has really only had a separate address more recently, which Monzo doesn't pick up.

I've just opened a Flexaccount. Had to update some of my details, refused an overdraft and they did a hard check.

... yes as stated above in bold ... they say they are doing a soft check to determining what level of arranged overdraft you can have even when you opt out, and then state they are performing a hard check before completing the application. At least they warn you during the application.

From the FlexAccount terms page ...

    "

    Arranged overdrafts

You can apply for an arranged overdraft at any time. When you do, we’ll look at your circumstances to see if we can offer you one. You’ll need to be 18 or over and a UK resident.

Find out more about overdrafts using our:

Overdrafts page — to understand how they work.
Overdraft calculator — to see how much one might cost.

To find out how much we might be able to offer you, you can use our arranged overdraft eligibility tool as part of your FlexAccount application. We’ll need some information about you. Things like your name, address history, employment and income. We’ll run a soft credit check to see what we can offer you. This won’t affect your credit score. If you choose to continue with your application, we’ll run a hard credit check too.

    "

In practice, as I say, I don't know how hard it can be when no overdraft facility is requested.

I have opened 4 FlexAccounts in three weeks, all without issue and switched 3 of them, plus 3 Santander Everyday Current Accounts during the same time period having switched 2 of them. I always select or opt for no arranged overdraft.

The warning is that although I haven't been declined opening a new account yet, I am sure the accounts I have opened with relevant information are included on my credit files, for an interested party to take into account if I were to seek a credit arrangement/loan/mortgage, which I am not.
