in Water bills
Recently got my water bill. Has gone up from £40 to £200.
Got a plumber to check for leaks inside house but none were found.
Thames water sent out an engineer to check the meter and leaks but all was in order.
Been monitoring the meter and all now is in order.
Thames Water refuses to adjust the bill or offer a credit.
Is there anything i can do or say to change their minds?

Thank you

Have you got your readings over the last few years ? Is there an increasing usage trend ? Any possibility that you are supplying your neighbours ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

If you haven't been monitoring your consumption and dont know how much you use or cant find a bill with a previous reading then its not everso easy to deternine whether what you paid before was too little or whether you'd managed to ramp up some arrears that need paying off.
Is the £40 that you were paying for a month, or a year. If you've only been paying £40 a month but using £50 worth of water a month then come the end of the year you'll owe them £120 however if you've used even more than that they might be trying to claw back all the arrears.
I'm with Anglian Water and they try to reset the DD back to a zero base which means that if I use more than my DD pays for they try to get it all back in one go - it usually ends up with me have a bit of a discussion with them to sort it out properly. However, it does assume that you know how much you use, what your tariff is and you can do the sums to make sure that they aren't over estimating your ongoing consumption(another little foible of AW which has the effect of potentially doubling the DD amount)Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
