I'm on Talk Talk for my wifi and broadband and its costing a fortune to call the doctors. Why is it so expensive to call the doctors? They are literally down the road from me and the area code is the same as mine. I've tried changing my bill with TalkTalk but it's still a fortune ,infact it's even worse then the last bill even though I wanted a cheaper plan.

Does Talk Talk do a Friends and Family tariff
Does your doctor do an online contact/appointment/renew prescription ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
TalkTalk have an unlimited landline call plan (for up to 60 mins)0

We did a courtesy call to a seller on Preloved to say we would be about 20 minutes late and got charged £3.50 for it. It still rankles. It would be great if all nuisance callers had to pay.0

Local and long distance call rates ended donkeys years back. All the same rate now.
Talk Talk Unlimited calls boost is £12 per month - undiscounted.
10 numbers can get a 'discount' of 10% on calls F&F... and TT to TT calls are free.
Some Mobile PAYG calls are pretty reasonable. So consider using a mobile phone instead.
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/best-pay-as-you-go-sim-cards/ check out small print as some require a regular spend (use it or lose it).
WhatsApp or similar apps may be able to make, effectively, free calls to landlines via a PC or smart phone ?
MSE unlimited calls and texts plus some data on a mobile rolling monthly contract is typically under £5 a month.... and some offer it at 1p a month for the first 6 of 12 (30day periods rather than calendar months just so you are aware). https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-mobile-finder/sim-only-filters/
It's what we use. Overkill for our usage really but no worries about long calls (on muzak) to HMRC, Doctors or even friends and family.
Alternatively if the Docs is really that near: trundle down to speak to the Reception staff.0 -
Their landline rates are ridiculous, 24p/min to UK landlines and mobiles, it makes no difference how far away you are. You're best using a VOIP service or if you've got a mobile that might be cheaper. We use 1pmobile so it's 1p a minute, also have Sipgate VOIP which is about 1.5p/min. If you make a lot of calls you can get a monthly call package, the TT one is quite expensive at £16 but your mobile provider or a VOIP provider will probably be cheaper.0

I invested in a gigaset phone, from Amazon.
Fantastic quality German phone cordless just like most in appearance
Whats good is it allows you to either use my talktalk phone line or switch to voip,
I setup an account with an online firm called Internet calls, when you top up the account you get a month or so of totally free calls to anywhere using void
Then it starts to charge, but the amount is hardly anything just a couple of pence.
Best thing I ever did, I can make phone calls all over the world for peanuts, or anytime we envisage long hold times we make the call on voice getting round the Talktalk 1 hour limit
Best of all you can use the same account in an app on your smart phone too called Mobile voice, and enjoy the same features0 -
