My HSBC paying in book says premier despite it not being a premier account - very odd - issued late 2021 IIRC[Deleted User] said:Ironically about 10 years ago I had a Barclays account and ordered a cheque book. What arrived was a premier chequebook. Given I was earning about 18k a year at the time I thought it rather ironic 10 years later I am earning far more and they won't entertain me.If you want me to definitely see your reply, please tag me @forumuser7 Thank you.

They’ve sent me a black debit card, received today. My existing debit card had a couple of years remaining on it.WillPS said:
They won't replace your debit card automatically until your current one expires. And had you recently upgraded to Premier?xzibit said:

I'd question the benefits of premier if you are paying £20 a month for it. You can get far more for your money at other banks for that charge. From what I can see you pretty much get nothing apart from a black card and a premier banking number. I am almost tempted to upgrade to see if they then give me an overdraft. Barclays currently claim I do not meet their requirements but the woman on the counter said upgrade to premier to get the overdraft. One wonders if this is a conspiracy to force clients to upgrade to get access to features.I’d be interested to hear from current premier account holders if they find it’s been worth it?

Chase US at least give you a metal card! On their equivalent.0 -

Perhaps Barclays are concerned with issuing a debit card which will get their London-based clients mugged
I agree tho, it'd be nice to see a Premier tier account with a premium debit card.3 -
Out of curiosity I tried to upgrade as the app was prompting to upgrade for free. On attempting this it said something went wrong and to call them. I don’t earn 75k per year but sometimes meet the monthly threshold of £3300 so it’s probably broke the system!0

I do think Barclays could easily score more punters for this account if they put icing on the cake and a cheery on top. Metal card, lounge access or insurance etc. it’s bare at the moment. I’d also say the requirements income wise are too high for what they are offering.0 -
I have had it for years, it used to have proper perks and was completely free.
now they have a min pay in requirement, but what they offer is basically slightly better customer service (with the loosening of qualifying criteria and customer numbers increasing this has already deteriorated) , higher ATM limits and access to some Premier Mortgage rates. Obviously it also gives you access to Avios Rewards (which you need to pay extra for) but that is it basically. Some other Premier accounts are still completely free but have stricter/higher income criteria2 -
My account now appears as a premier account. I haven’t spoken to anyone. Let’s see how long it lasts. I will try for an overdraft and report back one the account is settled down. A default £10 overdraft appears to have been applied, it used to be 0. How kind of them! But still have £500 withdrawal limit applied and overdraft apply form still blocked off.[Deleted User] said:Out of curiosity I tried to upgrade as the app was prompting to upgrade for free.
