Probate timescales

I assumed that once the documents were all scanned/keyed in then your application followed a similar path to the digital ones.  Now I have a mental image of a dusty room like something out of Dickens with all the staff who refused to modernise sitting at those tall sloping desks scratching away with quill pens.

If the certificates are issued in a similar timescale to the digital ones then hopefully you’ll get a nice surprise and they’ll land in 48 hours like ours.

Ours came in around 6-7 days after probate was granted. That was around 3 weeks ago so a recent experience.

mine has now been 14 days since it was granted and still hasn't been received

Came back from my solicitors yesterday. They informed me that, Probate can take up-to 16 weeks, But they put them into the probate portal and are taking about 10 days.

I'm still trying to work out the best way to value everything.

What do you mean by everything? House? Valuables?
are you facing IHT?
we weren’t that thorough but are well below threshold. We had 2 estate agent valuations for the house. If it was IHT I’d want a proper valuation.

OH got a cheque from HMRC for MIL’s overpaid tax about ten days ago. We used TellUsOnce before Christmas and they wrote in mid-January to say that we would hear in eight weeks. It it was a bit longer, but perhaps this is to be expected around the end of the tax year. We’re ready to exchange, just waiting for the buyer’s buyer to finalise something.

That’s very useful thanks as we are similar timescales. We had a letter 5th jan.

That’s very quick for the house.
we are not in a chain. Survey has just happened, but I’m really glad we got both probates at the same time and not just one as house is 50/50 tenants in common.
