Renew TV Licence. Or not!!!

  • We've not had a licence for near on 20 years now and unlikely to go back to paying for one anytime soon.
I do miss the Olympics so will watch bits at my parents, for news I have the Internet and radio.

We subscribe to Netflix and Disney plus, then watch C4 and ITV on demand for free though the adverts I get a bit fed up with at time. I'm a little tempted by britbox for a small number of programmes, but not so keen on subscribing to 3 packages.

We never have any problems with TV licencing, though we do have a smart TV on the wall now should they call in person, but we've purposely deactivated the live TV facility.
    Just don't let them in.
'Thanks, but no thanks' and then close the door.

Yes I wouldn't let them in but it's quite visible from the  outside. But I guess the onus is still on them to prove beyond reasonable doubt that I'm breaking the law and I'm not.

We chose Amazon Prime over the TV licence, we watched 98% Prime and 2% other anyway so nothing to say keep paying for the
licence for us.  No Dr Who since Tennant left and no Top Gear since the Trio left.

As for the news well it's mostly depressing so I use an app on my phone that just grabs the headlines which does me.
Anything that looks interesting will probably be on youtube in a day or so, I can live with that.

I know people love streaming, but the one advantage of freeview / freesat and a pvr is that you can fast forward over the ads - even the BBC self-promoting ones. Also over the beginnings of many programs that spend an inordinate amount of time telling you what you are about to see.
How is that an advantage over streaming though? There are no ads on Prime, Disney+ or Netflix, you can skip forward over the beginning/intro/recap if you want, they even provide a one click option to do this when you start watching.
None of those channels are freeview / freesat
And? Prime and Disney+ are half the price of the license fee, you could have both instead of the license fee and break even.

Exactly, having a TV is not a breach as far as having a license fee is concerned, no matter how much the "licensing officer" will probably try and claim it is on the day. PS if they take pictures or videos though a window of your private property that is likely breaching their RIPA obligations.
