  • I have been (legally) T.V.Licence free for 6 years now and don't regret not being fleeced one bit.
Most content is accessible online with catch up services anyway plus subscription services, eg.Netflix. No BBC iPlayer of course, no loss there.
Not necessary, but I do complete a no licence required declaration every two years on their website. Not yet received any threatening letters from them or visits from Capita's commission based sales people . All I have received is the confirmation of the declaration and we will contact you again in two years.
I wouldn't be surprised if Magic Roundabout content wasn't available on Youtube Dougal.

Trouble is if you like to keep up with current affairs etc then US entertainment channels, like Netflix, Disney+ etc is not much use.
The other day I switched over to watch sky news and the number of adverts was incredible. Gladly pay the licence fee 5 times over to watch the Beeb ad free .

Current affairs can be accessed without resorting to "entertainment channels". Yes, live news etc. may not be accessed but that same content is available as catch up not long after being broadcast.
Fortunately I am not allowed to watch the biased propaganda and their political agenda on the Beeb, as you so affectionately call it. If the tax was not required to watch live t.v. I wouldn't watch the Biased Broadcasting Corp. anyway.

Yes I remember only about 3 years ago, Laura Kuensberg had to be escorted by security men at the Labour Party conference, due to her and the BBC being perceived as having an anti Labour agenda.
On the other hand they also get blamed by the other lot for having an anti Tory bias.
So if both sides think they are biased, then maybe they are not in reality.

I know people love streaming, but the one advantage of freeview / freesat and a pvr is that you can fast forward over the ads - even the BBC self-promoting ones. Also over the beginnings of many programs that spend an inordinate amount of time telling you what you are about to see.
How is that an advantage over streaming though? There are no ads on Prime, Disney+ or Netflix, you can skip forward over the beginning/intro/recap if you want, they even provide a one click option to do this when you start watching.
None of those channels are freeview / freesat

Licence free since 2017. Most of the stuff I was is via Youtube, however we also have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+.
Sometimes i'll pay £3.50 for a months use of All4 without the ads.
Sadly haven't received any TV licencing letters in about a year, so must be due some by now!

Wish it was ad free !
Before and after every programme there are plenty of there own ads even when the next
    programme is running late
I don't watch anything live on any channel- everything is recorded now so I can fast forward through the "coming up", "what happened last week", the recap of what happened 5 mins ago (looking at you CH5), "on next weeks show". It never ends and as you say the BBC are just as bad, I fast forward the first 4 mins of every program now.

I can dispense with a 1 hr CH5 show like traffic cops in 31 mins, its like having a time machine, I gain 29 mins of life back for every tv show. Haven't watched an advert for 14 years.

Did enjoy The Gold on BBC1- wish they made more shows like that.
Yes agreed, just not the same type of criminals about now however

We have Netflix and Disney +, courtesy of a younger  family member sharing a password with a friend.
I have looked a few times and watched a couple of things, but I find it all very US/Hollywood. I would never ever pay for access to such channels.
Licence fee seems a bargain in comparison for such varied programming/ I player/ Radio 4/ local radio etc and all with no adverts.
Not saying BBC is immune from criticism, but not paying the licence fee for a UK broadcaster respected around the world ( and being able to watch ITV, C4 etc ) , whilst paying for US based streaming services, seems a bit of a funny way around.

I can and do watch ITV, C4, C5, etc, (Bascially everything except iPlayer) just on demand rather then live, which suits me down to the ground. I pay £4 per month for Netflix, £2 p/m for Youtube Premium and £1.50 p/m for Disney+. So much more variety and vastly cheaper then the licence fee. You mention Radio 4, however you don't require a licence to listen to BBC radio.
Not sure why you think it's a 'funny way round'. I don't respect the BBC so don't give them my money.

I read what I am interested in

Each to their own. I can not say I have much respect for huge US corporations, who also have a political agenda. You rarely see the Yanks losing in Hollywood films ! Also I try to spend as little as possible with Amazon, a tax evading foreign company. Maybe I am just a bit old fashioned in liking the British BBC. I also like warm beer and fish 'n chips !
  • We've not had a licence for near on 20 years now and unlikely to go back to paying for one anytime soon.
I do miss the Olympics so will watch bits at my parents, for news I have the Internet and radio.

We subscribe to Netflix and Disney plus, then watch C4 and ITV on demand for free though the adverts I get a bit fed up with at time. I'm a little tempted by britbox for a small number of programmes, but not so keen on subscribing to 3 packages.

We never have any problems with TV licencing, though we do have a smart TV on the wall now should they call in person, but we've purposely deactivated the live TV facility.
