Most people know a link detatched isn't actually a detatched house anyway as you are attached to a part of someone elses property, and they could have decided to convert their garage to a playroom for screaming kids or a workshop for metal work, so a noise issue would always be possible even without them building an extension.
I completely disagree. A link det house often have a contacting garage and the garages may in part encorach the main biuiling. However, without add on's they still look a lot better than a semi and are accepted as detached and not of the bedrooms/rooms etc are atached unless garge is converted even then it is mostly detached
If we were buying a a house like that and next door had built up close to the house we were looking at - unless it was below market value by a lot, we would not buy so it can affect some potential buyers and therefore it does make a difference.
OP, there will be some that take the iew its still lin det property and happy that people on your raod have money and take pride in their home and street, so its luck of the draw, you win some and you lose some, it is what it is.

I think regardless of what you define it as most would agree a link detached is preferable to a semi but not as preferable as a detached.2 -

I don't know of anyone apart from estate agents who would describe a link detatched house as detatched, they are not the same.
The point for the OPs situation is there house isnt being turned into a semi by the neighbours extension, it is still a link as it was before.0 -
Link-detached is a term used by estate agents; it's a semi detached house.
It shouldn't affect your home's value.0 -

I would personally consider a link detached as closer to a detached than a semi. I wouldn't live in a semi unless I really had to but wouldn't have a problem living in a link detached. Others might think differently.

What about 'linked end terrace' there are more than two houses attached once the building work is done.YNWA

In many ways a standard end of terrace seems to essentially be a semi anyway.
This would be my take on it:
Terrace house - More than two houses joined together.
Semi Detached - Two houses joined together sharing an entire (or most of a) party wall.
Detached - A house completely disconnected from any building owned by another.
Link Detached - A house connected to an out building (generally a garage) owned by someone else but no connection to their living space.
It muddies the waters somewhat if the neighbour converts that garage to living space. However I think most would agree it's still preferable to have that space connected to your living room or kitchen rather than have your bedrooms connected, plus your living room/kitchen.
There's even several different styles of link detached. You could have the scenario the OP has where the neighbours garage connects to your house. Alternatively your house could be connected to your own garage, which is turn is connected to your neighbours garage which is then connected to your neighbours house. This would probably be preferable again because you'll always have that buffer of your own garage regardless of what your neighbour does with theirs.0
