BRSK and their telephone poles !

Hi all
I am no luddite but others may be aware of a rising number of complaints in the media about BRSK planting their telephone poles everywhere !
They are using their powers under the telecommunications act which essentially allows them to bypass full planning consent to plant their poles and with no requirement for public consultation.
It is even happening in urban areas where there are already ducted services via openreach and virgin.
They are doing it because its cheaper than seeking to share ducts (no agreements in place) or install their own.
Surely this is a retrograde step? There is enough blighting of the public domain with poles ,advertising hoardings, signage, wires etc without more being added.

I will just add that poles have recently been added in my area despite there already being openreach ducting and virgin, so thats two high speed providers already available.
I have FTTC which is more than adequate.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The UK has terrible internet in terms of speed and choice of providers compared to many European countries, we are in the bottom 25% for FTTP and speeds.
So I welcome this, more choice, better quality, better prices.

Some people said "I have a horse that is more than adequate" before cars became so popular. Doesn't mean you are right, just means it suits you for now, but many people will benefit from a proper internet connection.
Thanks to BRSK I've now been able to leave Virgin media for the first time in over 20 years because they h/ave the monopoly on fast internet where I live, every house I've lived in is either slow 80/20 FTTC or fast 1 Gig Virgin and they know that so I can't get a good price for a 1 Gig line off them.
I'm now with BRSK for 1 Gig up and down (yes up as well unlike the pathetic 50mbps up on the Virign 1 Gig) for just £22.50.
Please don't hold back fast internet in this country, it is vital for the economy.
And poles are much better, I remember the uproar when Virgin was digging all the pavements up and leaving a mess behind. Some areas near me blocked it and they are now suffering from slow speeds.0 -
BRSK have put poles up all over my area but the thing that annoys me most is they are constantly knocking on doors trying to sign people up because they have so little take up of customers,One day i had 3 different people knocking on the door whom the last of them got a polite pee off.

Proper internet connection in this day and age in the U.K should be using the underground network that has already been put in where the houses are relatively new. Many other countries have moved further forward than the U.K and have buried fibre connections. The argument is that communications companies are not sharing each others buried network because it is easier to dig up and insert a telegraph pole. this is not progress, overhead cables and telegraph poles are taking us back in time to the 50s. They are dangerous, high maintenance and an eyesore and if you think that your fibre internet connection will stay as cheap as you are paying now you are hiding your head in the sand. When you next change to a lower costing internet provider don't be alarmed if another telegraph pole is installed because your new provider has not been bothered to request permission to use another providers equipment. My property and the surrounding properties have a buried fibre connection but BRSK are trying to install telegraph poles and overhead cables simply because they have not asked for permission to utilise the buried fibre routes to houses from BT/Outreach its the lazy option, and those living under a huge telegraph pole have to put up or shut up for that one person in the area who has changed their provider to BRSK.[Deleted User] said:The UK has terrible internet in terms of speed and choice of providers compared to many European countries, we are in the bottom 25% for FTTP and speeds.

You would think 11mbs would be very cheap now but it isnt far behind the prices for FTTC !Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The cost isn't in the peak throughput, or at least not very much of it is. The vast majority is in the infrastructure needed to support the connection.

I think that you agree with my overarching point about internet being pants in the UK and it can be done much better.
For me, no new poles, BRSK used Openreach ones and run the fibre from pole to pole around my district. Openreach had everyone the opportunity to do that over the years but never has and the choice for me was limited to just 2 Openreach VDSL or Virgin Cable.0
