Did you try with your mobile app or your PC?
Was the CHIP payment already set up with NW?
I set up the payee last week (after the rate increase) and had already made a few transactions. Made via the mobile app.

I had a moan at Nationwide via the messages on the app (even that took time to find as it's tucked away) and waiting further communication tomorrow.
The reason I asked was they wouldn`t let me send one amount on my laptop but allowed it on my mobile.
    Inconsistent or what.
Before their change to vetting amounts you can send in a day, you could send any amount as long as it was £10k at a time.

They`re giving a £100 to some members soon, maybe after that a look around to see what`s available.

Ha! I wish. After having held a "Flex Plus" current account with them for many years (average balance £2k) I still won't be getting anything as my savings account with them holds 3p (!) The app is slow, constantly needing restarts, it's a faff to set up new payees, and rubbish savings rates. The only thing that was keeping me on is the insurances that come with the Flex Plus account, but sadly I'm getting to the tipping point where I'll go find somewhere else.
