    What software are you using?

VLC will play DVDs quite well.
I'm using VLC media player and it works fine with the first 3 seasons but the other seasons will not play.

Try navigating to the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD.

Click on VTS_01_0.ifo which should play the first episode chain without the title menu

(VIDEO_TS.ifo is the top menu, but that seems to be broken. It autoplays when you click on the DVD)

If there is a VTS_02_0.ifo click that next and it will play the extras or the second program chain

    If that doesn't work

Click on the vob files starting with VTS_01_1.vob

and play the vob files directly in VLC. An episode is probably split across 2 or more vob files though, and they won't chain together, so you will have to click the next one manually (I can't remember if VLC autoplays files in sequence.

IIRC, N will jump to the next sequential file  .

I only use VLC to play DVDs and blurays, I use mpv player mostly, as VLC doesn't like to play files with flac soundtracks (although it does let me select passthrough of DTS & DD to my soundcard to send out the TOSlink to my amp from the interface).

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

you could try another dvd software - windows will play them natively, or you could google for an alternative.

If it reads the disk ok from a data point of view, you could look at ripping the DVD to MP4 and playing them that way.

If it read the disc it would play, most likely there are some errors in the disc due to age. I suppose the disc could be non-compliant or use a key that VLC doesn't have, but I thought all the keys had been hacked/reverse engineered many years ago.

(And they told us CDs and DVDs would last for a million billion years- well they might, but you can't actually play them after about 10 because the aloominums corrodes and won't reflect properly.
On the other hand, I still have some large flat black analogue storage media that is getting on for 100 years old and still plays the stored audio as perfectly :) as it did when it was pressed)

I have about 2,500 CDs, many dating back to the mid 1980s, and I have yet to have a single failure.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Really? I must just be the Unluckiest Person in the World then :)

If you hold them up to the light really bad ones show bright spots where the silvering has pinholed.

Talking Heads - Sand In The Vaseline is notorious for it.

Lost is available for downloading if you know where to look but the final episode is so pathetic that it renders watching the episodes up to that point utterly pointless.

Sometimes life is about the journey not the final destination.
