I tend to judge people by what I would do, not the lowest common denominator.powerful_Rogue said:Just because a small sofa fits in, doesn't mean a larger one would - thus it being a reasonable question. Now if they had the larger sofa and was asked if the smaller one would fit in I would partly agree.
If it was me, the first thing i would do after measuring the smaller sofa was to remeasure the dimensions of getting the larger sofa where i wanted it.
There is no way I would risk complaining about a smaller sofa, getting it sent back and find the larger one doesn't fit.
No doubt there are some people that it would happen to, but I can't treat everyone like that.
That's fair enough, however I can totally understand the question being asked after working in retail when I was younger. Sometimes they have to ask what might appear the daftest questions to cater for the lowest common denominator.

One reason it could be is that the question infers the OP is stupid.powerful_Rogue said:Struggling to see whats rude about that comment. Seems a reasonable question.
My reply to such a question would be
"Yes the larger sofa is far to big for my house, that's why I'm complaining, as the small one fits in, and I want one that doesn't"
Totally agree with your post, hence my previous post and I'm unsure why the other poster is unable to comprehend the fact the shop staff was rude.
I'm guessing the shop staff lady was inexperienced/naive etc etc hence her response.
The shop staff comments remind me of the times I go to ask a question in a shop etc and as like some, I'm poilte so start, " Hello/Morning... I would if you could help.." and the response is, 'whats the problem' to which my answer is, "its not a problem but a question' that makes them think.
OP has a a geiune concern and at the very least the stor should treat them with respect just like when they were selling them the sofa.

ThnaksI have no need to comprehend that the shop staff was rude as in my opinion they wasn't. Unless it's a case of your opnion overrides others. With your example given, I also see no issue with the reply and used to say exactly the same myself. I don't see it as being rude in the slightest. Whereas if you had asked for help and they said 'No, sod off' - I would agree.

That's fair enough as well.powerful_Rogue said:

I have never worked in retail, actually I did for a day.
I was in the returns section and a woman wanted to return a single sheet as when on bed it was far too small. She then asked she should do, I replied but another one and sew them together.
They then deemed I wasn't suitable for the role.

I think that sums it up really, can't beat a bit of humour! I haven't worked in retail for 20 years now and can only imagine things have got worse since then.HillStreetBlues said:

True but there's no doubt a signed document which says 'what you ordered' was a three seater sofa which I think would tip any official complaint in favour of the furniture company unless you can evidence what was said in the shop. |The customer has received what their order says they asked for.HillStreetBlues said:
I feel that's an important point.sheramber said:The OP appears to have been unaware that the sofa they were sitting on was not a standard 3 seater sofa. No one explained it was a 15 seater.
The assistant appears to have been aware that the sofa the OP was sitting on was not a standard 3 seater sofa so ordered a standard 3 seater sofa instead of the larger one that was on display.
Say the corner was on the left and the middle cushion and right cushion were 60cm each.
If I said I wanted no left corner, I want it straight like the right is, then I would expect every cushion to measure 60cm
If they delivered a sofa with three cushions measuring 40cm each, that that isn't what I ordered.
What they call it, 1 or 1.5 isn't my concern as may differ with each showroom.3 -
This is the problem.
The OP got what was ordered but unfortunately, they did not realise what was ordered was not what they wanted.

I'm back with a full update with how I got on.Reminder, I was sat on a corner unit sofa and, pointing and touching the sofa, asked if I could buy just the two ends and centre unit. Didn't need the corner. Was told yes but the sofa that arrives was a lot smaller than expected.Went to ombudsman who got in touch with supplier. Ombudsman said in reality it was a matter for trading standards for mis-selling. Anyway, ombudsman contacted supplier and the supplier contacted me and offered 80% refund as a credit against the sofa I wanted. I said I'll call them back. Went to the sofa showroom where I was greeted by a new member of staff who told me he'd been working there for months. Sat on the sofa I asked the same questions but asked in a better, safer way for me."Can I get this exact sofa with the two end units and centre unit but without the corner unit", "Yes Sir", "These exact units, this size", "Yes Sir", "Do you have one on display?" and here comes the killer "You're sat on it Sir, you can buy this without the corner unit". I then told him I'd recorded his conversation 'for personal use'.Went home and called sofa company customer services. Explained I had the recording 'for personal use' but did say I would now take this to Trading Standards. Asked what would I like I replied a 100% credit refund on the missold sofa. 12 weeks later my wonderful corner unit arrived and they removed the old sofa. I paid only the difference in price, no delivery or collection costs. The good guy won.ps I've a corner unit I don't want sat in the corner of my large lounge that the cat uses.0
