Mis-sold sofa

Interesting one for you all. Sat for over an hour in a sofa showroom and purchased a sofa, armchair & footstall.
Problem is what was delivered was not what we wanted.
We were sat on a corner sofa and asked if we could have it without the corner unit, in other words a straight sofa. Yes, of course was the reply.
So sat on the sofa and continually touching it and pointing to it we ordered the two end units and a centre unit. Easy, well not quite.
We were sat on what they call a 1.5 seater (each 'unit' or seat is 1.5 size). But what we recieved was a three seater sofa. It's a third smaller than the one we were sat on when ordering. As a side, the smaller 1 seater unit is not on display or available to sit on so we did not know we were getting a smaller sofa.
It looks so small in our lounge and also very uncomfortable.
The company have said we have what we ordered, which is almost correct, except what we wanted was the sofa we were sat on in the showroom. Again, at no time were we told the sofa would be different and smaller than the one we specifically asked for. They said we should have measured them. Again we did in front of the sales girl. But what we measured was not what we were getting.
In my mind we were mis-sold the sofa.
Company have refused any help.

That's the problem, it stated three seater sofa. But as we were sat on the sofa we wanted and continually pointed to it, that is what we wanted. At no time were we told the sofa we were sat on was a 1.5 seater and the sofa we ordered was a 1 seater. There is no 1 seater sofa in the showroom so how did we know we were getting smaller. And we continued to point at the sofa we were sat on telling the girl this is what we wanted.

From what you have said here, you were aware item, exact item was not on display but was happy to place the order.
Have they send out as per the order/agreement?

Onto the third highlighted section, you measured the display sofa in front of the member of staff, they witnessed it and didn't advise that your measurements were irrelevant?0 -

Onto the third highlighted section, you measured the display sofa in front of the member of staff, they witnessed it and didn't advise that your measurements were irrelevant?First two highlights. We sat on a corner unit which comprised two ends with arm rests, one seat (no arms) in the middle and one corner. It was verbal to the point we were sat on the sofa and pointing to it over and over again making sure what we got was what we were sat on, minus of course the corner unit. At no time, ever, were we told what we were getting was smaller.Third highlights. No, nothing was said but I cant swear to doing it in front of her.

The OP appears to have been unaware that the sofa they were sitting on was not a standard 3 seater sofa. No one explained it was a 15 seater.
The assistant appears to have been aware that the sofa the OP was sitting on was not a standard 3 seater sofa so ordered a standard 3 seater sofa instead of the larger one that was on display.

All of this is very difficult to explain. But someone said imagine going into the Audi showroom and driving a 2 door TT for a spin. Asking for a 4 door version and getting an A1. It's an Audi with 4 doors but not what you were sat in when ordering.I have returned to the store and a very rude shop assistant asked if the bigger sofa would have fitted in my house! That made me very angry. She was sat in a chair at the time and I said let's swop sides. You order that chair you are sat in but I send you a smaller version, what would you say?Taken this up with the ombudsman now.0 -
You order that chair you are sat in but I send you a smaller version, what would you say?Not a particularly accurate analogy, you ordered a variant of the chair you were sat in, and the retailer's contention is that you should have checked the order fully before signing.
Let's hope the ombudsman sees it differently.0
