    Ok. I'll rephrase the question:
If TS are going to get in touch, roughly how long do they typically take before they do?
Rephrasing the earlier info from the poster in the know, it varies:
    • civil matter: no contact likely
    • potential criminal activity: possible contact if there's a pattern forming, "could be weeks/months after your complaint was filed"
    • more serious matter: "within a few days"
    • very serious/urgent: "immediate"
Yes, but the OP clearly feels his issue would be in one of the last two categories. TS may or may not agree!

Please don't try to second guess what I "clearly feel"!

Well, back on page 2 you said.....

I wouldn't be looking into involving TS if it was a trivial matter.

True. But 'non trivial' doesn't mean life threatening!

But you are expecting people to 2nd guess what T/S will do.

End of the day, unless someone actually works for them, then all you are going to get are best guesses. Which could vary area to area, depending on how well staffed your local T/S is.
Perhaps ask C/A their opinion given they are the front line for them.🤷‍♀️

"String measuring" and "very roughly" are pretty close to "2nd guess", are they not?

I've got the answer I wanted.

The question I asked was carefully chosen to help me fill a specific gap in my knowledge.
By keeping it tightly constrained discourages some of the more vociferous respondents answering questions they think I'm asking!

I take it that you didn't really take anything away from your other thread where you had to apologise for being terse with another poster because you hadn't realised that information that you knew (but chose not to reveal) would be relevant to providing you with a helpful answer to your question?

GaryBC:  "Ok. Let's go back to the essence of my question...  I'm not sure how the nature of the records or the reason I want them has any bearing on where they are. The[y?] are where they are irrespective of if anyone is interested in them."

Keep-pedalling:  "It has a baring as different sorts of documents are retained for different periods. If what was given was purely advice then any records will have been destroyed after 7 years, transactional records would have been held for around 15 years, only things like estate administration, trusts and wills would be held longer than that."

GaryBC:  "Thanks for that. It's a distinction I wasn't aware of. Apologies for my terse response!"

Keep_pedalling:  "No need to apologise, I realise that answering questions with another question might come across as being nosey but on here it is normally done so that an appropriate answer can be given."

If you want to play secret squirrel and guessing games and waste people's time, fine - but don't expect to get answers that will be of any help to you...

[Edit:  Your statement that "The question I asked was carefully chosen to help me fill a specific gap in my knowledge" really only works if you know where the gaps in your knowledge are.  Most people don't know.]

My question was answered many posts ago!
The reason I give out as little as possible is that some seem to enjoy picking up on 'questions' that haven't even been asked!
With every thread I post I'm learning more and more about the need to frame my question tightly.
It's not about playing secret squirrel, it's about defining boundaries.

Indeed, I'd contend that I answered your question straight away ("how to get them to the party?", "they don't attend parties but might hold their own event instead") but for some reason you seemed to want to know when to expect an RSVP, even though it's clear it would be a 'no'!

Re-reading the thread it seems I've allowed myself to be drawn off topic and used too many analogies, metaphors and similies.
I'll be more careful/specific in the future.
