City Fibre

They've been installing in my area, although none of the fibre companies have, as yet tried to get us on board.
With the new price rises coming, I'm not sure I want to sign up to another 18 months with Virgin Media so may just accept the price rise this time and ditch them when new fibre companies are providing in our area.

However, has anyone else had this company installing new Fibre lines around?
How long did it take for them to become active?

When CityFibre started digging up our pavements I signed up to their announcement emails to keep track of progress.

They were installing the ducts in our area around April 2020 so progress was delayed by 3 covid lockdowns but I think they'd completed our area before the final 2020 lockdown.
In January 2021 their email announced FTTP was now available from 'a preferred partner'.
In June 2021 the next email announced more ISPs were available.
When I checked in April 2022 there were loads of ISPs listed, including well-known nationals.

My FTTC contract ended last month and CityFibre installed my FTTP line last week. My FTTP ISP is a local company who offer symmetric download and upload speeds as well as honouring the 24 month contract price and do not add RPI+x.x% annual increases. They've even decreased the price by £5 since April so I guess they are quite popular.

We've had cityfibre network in our area for about 12 months.  There are now about 12 ISPs to choose from.

I'm likely to jump to them as VM aren't interested in a long term deal at a sensible price.

CityFibre installed in our area this time last year and as far as I remember we started getting fliers through the door pretty within a couple of months. I am just changing to them (tomorrow) from Virgin due partly to the price rises but also because I realised how tied I was to Virgin as I didn't have any other landline connection. When I cancelled Virgin the adviser did offer a discount on the new price but it was still nearly £50/month. Obviously I got a much better price with new customer discount (Vodaphone), and it means I will be able to switch again more easily in future. Today I got a phone call from Virgin offering me a price which just about matches Vodaphone as I have been a long-standing customer but I am still going ahead with the new contract for future portability. It might be worth the gamble of actually cancelling and see if they offer something similar. I did say to the guy who rang today that although I understand that businesses have to make profits, quite frankly I think Virgin are definitely taking the mickey. He sort of agreed with me and didn't try to talk me into staying so I'm guessing he is probably getting quite a bit of push back lately.
  • Thanks.

City Fibre have installed the cables a month or two ago but had no fliers as yet.  I have signed up to some of the ISPs they work with so hopefully will get some info through the inbox soon.

Will accept Virgin Media's price rise this time around so I can leave when my contract is up.

Well, new CityFibre connection set up and new broadband and phone up and running. I still have the Virgin connection for  week or two but am due to have surgery shortly so wanted it all set up in time beforehand. The engineer said they are connecting a lot of fed-up Virgin customers.

In some areas Vodafone has an exclusivity deal with CityFibre, so they're the only provider available for the first 12 months after the line becomes active.
