Toilet Problems

Whenever I go to the toilet, it doesn't flush away - it just sits there. If you keep on flushing it over and over again sometimes it does go eventually but not always. The flush itself is working ok. It seems like the toilet is too narrow. I keep on having to get a stick or something and break up the waste and then it flushes away.
Sorry there's no delicate way of putting that but it's getting me down as it keeps happening every time. I'd be grateful for any help.

Hi,I remember my mum used to give me syrup of figs.2

Presumably it used to work OK, so something is restricting the waste flow.
A plunger may well be all you need to improve things, but I'd check that the sewer itself isn't backing up by lifting the drain cover nearest to your house and verifying that is the sewer by flushing the toilet with something identifiable like soapy water in it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Can you compare your loo with other people's? You want to know if the issue is with your loo, or your issue. Are you on codeine, for example - that can produce some solid logs that won't be driven around the bend.
When you break them up, how solid are they?1 -

Won't ask for a picture. That would be TMI!

Occasionally have the same problem with my toilet. A sheet or two of toilet paper over the offending log often helps it flush more effectively.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -

You need to get out more, pal. And visit other folk's loos - and do a youknowwhat in them.

Had this problem at my own property when I started back at the gym and eating lots and lots of fiberous foods. My turds are so big they would block the toilet and no amount of flushing would help. A few observations:1) Sometimes this would happen when using someone else's loo, sometimes not. Doesn't happen at my new house. I suspect the age and smoothness of the toilet makes a difference (the toilets at my new house are much newer). I also use a silicone toilet brush now because I am convinced the nylon bristles scratch the toilet over a long period of time and make it less smooth.2) I would tip a bucket of water down the toilet but this rarely worked. Often I would fill the bucket up 3 or 4 times and it still wouldn't go down.3) The problem would sometimes improve after cleaning the toilet but usually return a couple of days or so later.4) Doing the poop, flushing and then wiping and flushing again helped. Sometimes I would flush mid poop if I could catch it just right. Attempting to flush poop at the same time as toilet paper was definitely a recipe for blockage.5) The problem became so bad at one stage that I kept a stick from the garden alongside the toilet brush and used this to chop the poop up into pieces. Using the toilet brush to try and break it up just kind of compacted it in further and made it worse. Sounds disgusting, and it is, but the poo stick was the only thing that worked 100%.I'm sorry that I am so well versed in the subject. I wish I wasn't. But I hope some of this might help.1

Betterware used to make a rigid silicon blade called the "Toilet Maid" but it seems to have gone out of production. Closest thing to it that I can see on the market is the Sanimaid range of toilet cleaners, but I'm not sure if they are rigid enough to break up "deposits". Or this on Amazon -https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bristle-Free-Silicone-hygienic-experience-Innovative/dp/B096WBD6GD/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1K18A88VL6WVL&keywords=silicone+toilet+blade&qid=1677605378&sprefix=silicone+toilet+blade%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-5
