Oops! Forgot to add the quote:

Good afternoon Denise , I trust you are well . Further to my recent visit to your lovely home I am now happy to quote for the following works to divide the double room into two bedrooms.
So to: Install floor protection prior to commencement of works .
Construct a new studwork wall to divide the rooms as we discussed .The
exact measurements to be agreed on site. The new wall will include the
the creation of 4/5 glazed units approximately  600mm wide x 300mm deep
trimmed with architrave/mouldings. The wall will be insulated with 75mm
rockwool and plastboards of 12.5mm and plaster skimmed. All dimensions
              to be discussed on site.
Install 4no new downlighters and change the existing switch and relocate
new switch in the new wall. Install 1no new USB double socket.
Supply and fit a new door, to match the existing.
Supply and fit  architraves and skirtings to match existing.
Make good and plaster any chases/holes created by electrical works.
Paint and decorate all the walls and ceilings to match the existing where
              possible, throughout.(Includes the existing walls)
Prepare and paint the new door to match the existing.
Remove all debris from the project and leave clean and tidy .
The duration of the project will be 5/6 days including drying time and we could start almost immediately should you wish to proceed .
The total cost  for the above works will be                       £3450-00.

We could start almost immediately would be a red flag for me, I would get more quotes

For putting up a small stud wall that seems very expensive. All the work they are doing is very straightforward, and as the wall will be so small, isn't going to use much materials or time either. The electrical work there is a few hours work at most and less than £50 in materials.

I'm not sure how they are planning to drag the job out to 5/6 days? The only things there that take time are the plaster and paint drying !

  • Unless I'm reading it wrong, install more than 1 double USB plug socket. You always need more than you think, especially for the yoof
  • I'm still struggling to see how you will have enough space if you split that room, and light. By the time you've added doors and an entrance way surely the rooms will be really small? Sorry to sound a negative nelly, just wouldn't want you to spend money on something that really doesn't work.

I am guessing install one additional one as there are already some in the room?

Thank you all for your feedback. I’m definitely going to get a few quotes.

I am also going to look into the idea of sliding doors to split the room. It will cost less and take up less space.

If you get glazed sliding doors ( with obscured glass for privacy ) it will also let a lot of light into the room. They probably won't fit the whole width of the divide, but you would only need a small stud wall built either side of them

So someone sleeps in the kitchen with the cooking smells?

To be honest it I was in this situation I'd give the kids the rooms, and have the kitchen/sitting room to myself. No extra walls, just a quality comfortable sofa-bed and few house rules to account for the situation. No smelly food could be one of them ;)
