White goods extended warranty

We have an extended warranty agreement on a tumble dryer purchased April 2020.  The extended warranty ends April 2023.

The tumble dryer is still functioning.  However, over the last week or so it has developed an abnormal noise intermittently, at times it is not that loud but at other times much more noticeable.  It is a bit screechy but lasts maybe 20 seconds to a minute, then disappears, returning to a more normal sound of a tumble dryer in use.

My concern is that the intermittent noise is not deemed to be a "breakdown" or fault as such as the tumble dryer still functions.  And we could possibly be billed for a call out whereby they deem there to be no ascertainable fault.  And of course once past April if whatever is causing the noise develops further causing the dryer to break down then it will be too late to use the warranty.

So, does an appliance require to actually breakdown and stop working or is an abnormal noise sufficient to be deemed a fault requiring service and repair?

  • Could well be the belt tension. More likely to happen with a heavier load such as towels.
Have you noticed if it happens more on certain loads?

No, the extended warranty covers 'faults'. Not just complete failure. Possible bearing failure, or the belt, as suggested above.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Many thanks for the replies.  Much appreciated.  Will get onto the warranty firm tomorrow.  Cheers.

An extended warranty covers whatever its terms and conditions says it covers. There may well be exclusions so the OP needs to read the policy carefully.
