The only way of avoiding being caught in that would have been to use a clairvoyant for the conveyancing, perhaps?Sistergold said:

And in any event, I'm not sure to what extent the tenure is relevant. If you were a freeholder with liability for the communal parts then sorting out flammable cladding would still have been an expensive surprise.
