Does it switch of eventually (10 minutes), they usually have a timer that runs for a while after the light goes off to remove any excess steam etc. They don't use a lot of electricity.

The fan keeps running when you turn the light off because it’s on a timer. It will automatically turn off after a set period (normally a few minutes) The switch outside is an isolator switch that you turn off if you need to work on the fan for any reason. It is working as it should and is not faulty. If you turn the isolator off and put the light on, the fan will not come on. It won’t cause any damage to the fan if you want to control it with the isolator

no as the sound is from the isolator as fan has gone off in the bath room

Ok. You can control it with the isolator. If the fan never goes off when the isolator is turned on it sounds like the timer is faulty on the fan

You can just switch the isolator on and off when you use the bathroom if you need the fan. To fix the problem you would need a qualified electrician to come and have a look at the fan
