  • Just a thought OP, but have you tried typing “Will” or similar  key word in the search bar of your email account?
Even if you think you have deleted emails, the search often finds associated messages in other folders, such as  Sent. Apologies if you have already done this but it helped me find an important lost message this week!
  • thanks, I had tried that.
surprising how common the word 'will' is in emails :-)

OP, how did you pay?  If online you will have a note of the payees name on your bank or credit card statement, or if by cheque, the payees name will be in the cheque.
    good thinking!
probably go to pay for old statements now :-)
Might be cheaper to write a new will!
I thought that but it turns out that the CO-OP bank only charges £10 for 4 or more statements!
Just need to wait for their arrival now. :-)
I would still make a new will, on line wills might b3 OK for a simple cash only estate but I would not touch them for anything else.
    if I can't find it I will.
It is a very simple will that's why I only want the minimum requirement

I am aware this is outside the scope of the question you asked.

Perhaps once you have resolved the issue of the missing will you might consider looking at the paperwork and documentation you would leave behind on your death.

Executing a will is a challenging process at am emotionally difficult time. Having clear records, or a simple starting point, is a kindness to whoever is dealing with the estate. There are numerous threads here, backed by the experience of many regular posters, about estates which were needlessly more complex than they should have been due to lack of records and insufficient foresight.

    Best wishes with everything,

I would concur with what @Mands has just said.  I'm currently executing an estate where the deceased was incredibly well organised and her affairs very simple.  She died less than 3 weeks ago and I've already sent off Probate and am now waiting for everyone else to do what they're supposed to - banks to release funds, PBs to be cashed, final bills for utilities etc., although some of those have already been received and paid.  When she got a new bill, she made a note of the amounts etc. in a little notebook and threw the previous one away - every account had a folder and she'd written everything out in a hand written list too.  It's been so easy to sort, that I'm wondering what I've missed.

Yet the previous one I did (her brother) took me a year to get as far as applying for Probate because it was a nightmare - his idea of filing was throwing it into a pile (complete with all envelopes and any leaflets in the pack) with everything else he had - then the pile would fall over and it would all get shuffled back into a disorganised heap.  I still wake in a sweat periodically thinking it's not finished.  I shredded a sack full of bank statements that were in shillings - I know what he paid his tailor in 1969!

So I've been making notes and good records for my own son so that when my time comes, he doesn't end up waking in terror at 02:00am.  So being methodical and keeping good records truly is a kindness to your executor.
