you need to find a computer with XP on it, as i think there are issues with the USB flash driver on vista.

(you should only need to change the CDA string region on an xp computer, as SE have the update service for vista here)

Managed to get my hands on an xp machine after my vista troubles, what do I need to change the cda string? is this done in xs++?

I'd read the notes gaming_guy has pointed out in his posts: I used this one he recommended http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16568
Both the guide and gaming_guy recommend you back your GDFS before you change things. The guide recommends this how to http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16148

I've never unbranded a phone, but order a SE990i after the post (yours?) on grabbit. All the reviews say the phone is excellent but the Orange firmware is no good.

You can need to change a code on the phone to the world 1 code e.g. CDA162007/1.
    CDA_CHANGE_2.JPG

Then update with SEUS. Again read gaming_guys posts.

There is a lot of info in the guide that gaming_guy recommended, they are well written and have screen shots and annotations.
    Seth.

Tried what you suggested...having problems with phone connection, using vista home prem installed suggested software & keep getting an error "windows usb device malfunction" then before I can do anything goes off.....got all the latest usb drivers etc so stuck!

I'm having problems with the usb drivers as well. I get "windows usb device malfunction" on my XP home PC, and it won't let you install any drivers. I tried on a machine running XP Pro and it just looks for drivers for p990i but won't accept the flash ones.

Any ideas? The wifi isn't working on my phone and a debrand and update is my only hope!

    get this flash driver:

    http://filebeam.com/429ce21a5d0c77c6ca89103c0a58d4e5

extract it > right click the .inf file > install.

the flash driver should now be installed

Thanks, but I'm just getting "USB device not recognized" now and XS++ is unable to connect.

I've got the phone off and I'm holding the 'C' button. It's really frustrating, I can't see what I'm doing wrong :(

tick the smartphone connect box in xs++, then hold the '@' (i think) key for smartphones (or whatever xs++ tells you to do, if anything)

Thanks, I wasn't ticking the smartphone connect box! All done now, using the SE firmware now :)
