Sky sports increases

Hi,

my sky sports complete package, including Sky sport hd and signature which are both compulsory, has ended and increasing from £27 to £47 per month from. So a 74% increase. Apparently the previous deal was heavily discounted and cant be improved upon plus the prices are increasing from April 1st. So, ive been told the quoted £47 pm cannot be improved upon.   Should i now be looking at sport on Nowtv? I see their monthly membership is £34.99 per month! Is it easy to use, anything i need to know? And , i hope i'll still be able to use my sky+ box for recording terrestrial tv programmes?

Not sure about Sky+ recording bit and others with better knowledge may comment on that(I think since you own Sky HD box so it should work fine without Sky subscription) but there are a couple of things related to Now TV sports pass.

The usual package is only 720p which frankly is totally unwatchable on a TV so you will probably have to fork out £5 a month extra on “boost” that will upgrade the steaming to 1080p plus you can stream on up to 3 different screens at the same time so do factor that in.

If you really want to use Now, they usually have promotions running all the time(they emailed me to get sports pass for £19.99 a month for 12 months plus one month free of boost) but I personally find that is expensive even for that price. I was on £14.99 a month for 6 months but cancelled after a month when they won’t budge on that £5 a month for boost. I started sharing £19.99 a month plus £5 a month for boost with two of my office fellows so all three have to it just over £8 a month for sports pass.

They may want you to move to Sky Q hence they aren’t budging on new contract price atm but as so many people have shared their experience in forum, your best bet is to cancel or threaten to cancel to get a better deal.

    No recording on Now.
Also no recording on Sky+ box without a subscription of some sort, whether its a full one or just £10 a month to unlock the recorder.

@Colleyflower1 - I've got Signature plus Sports both in HD for £38 going up to £43 pm in April , and others have reported even better deals lately- so you certainly should be able to negotiate better than £47pm altho you probably will have to push the cancellation route.
  • Thanks for the replies! I'll prompt a cancellation in the next week or so and see if they reduce the future bill but it looks like i'll only have £4 or so leeway as the next two months are projected as £43 on 21st March, then £47 on 21st April! Looks like i'll also need to buy some other box for recording if i do end up cancelling sky!
  • I pay £18 for complete Sports

If you are in a virgin area I’d give their stream box a look at coupled with their broadband you get the freeview channels included for free you can’t record but you can buy sky sports on a 31 day rolling contract for £18.75 that offer is for 18 months they also offer BT sport for £10.00 a month I pay £54.75 for broadband and tv with them but having those packages on a 31 day contract with an 18 month offer I certainly won’t take out a contract for tv packages ever again.

But you also have to pay for Signature - so what are you paying for that ?

My £19.99 pm deal is now ending and no available deal offered when I go through the cancellation process. Will wait and see what happens.

I actually think it is reasonable value for £19.99 per month when I equate that to the match day cost of a ticket at most PL stadiums which is probably well over £20. As you say though, you do have to pay the extra £5 for Boost.

I'm keeping a watch on my inbox now hoping for an offer to appear.

They have emailed me £19.99 a month for 12 months which includes a month of boost for no cost. I have no plan to use that and if that’s something which you may like to use, I can share the unique url that you can open and then login with your now account to subscribe.
