    Thanks.

    I already  have Lens

Tried Lens, resulted in listing most common qr codes eg bbc etc.

    Thanks again.
What does that mean? Is it actually a QR code you're trying to scan?

    Hi,
that was just a google search I did, just go into play and make a choice, easy enough uninstall if not happy.
Just Google "Does Google Play contain malware".
If you want to go down that path, what makes you think that you can trust Android itself? Many parts of the kernel will have been written by Open Source developers who have nothing at all to do with Google. Why would you trust them any more than you do the apps that Google permits in the Google Play store?

You're probably safe enough picking any of the apps in Play Store, with just a quick double-check to make sure that the permissions that you grant to the app are limited in an appropriate way.

    Hi,
Google Play might already be on your tablet,

just search QR, if asked to set up account or pay, just skip that bit.

    Yes.

A Web address is embedded in the QR code on paper.

I want to scan it with my tablet camera so that my tablet then goes direct to the embedded Web address.

    Thanks for your reply

Just point the camera at it.. Or go to the pull down menu (from the top) and hit QR Scanner. It's built in, there should be no need to download anything.

Have been unable to find, on my tablet, a QR scanner.

Checked out Settings,  Apps, no QR scanner app.

    Thanks again.

Have you pulled down the menu (swipe from top) one of the options should be QR Scanner. You shouldn't even need to do this as the camera will automatically scan the code... Anyway.... How to scan QR code on your Galaxy phone or tablet | Samsung UK

My guess is that although the OP insists it's a QR code I suspect it may actually be something like an Aztec code or similar which may not neccessarily be supported natively by their phone's camera app.

How can I decide if it is QR, or Aztec, or similar?

    Thanks again.
