Do I need line rental?

  • Thanks to all for your responses, which have helped cement our decision to go for broadband only.

We already have a digital 'landline' phone which, as pointed out, doesn't work in a power cut,  so what's the point paying extra to keep it.

Mobile signal in our rural area is temperamental but better than it used to be.

Broadband, the Internet, etc is  wonderful but making basic phone calls has definitely gone backwards.  I swear "I can't hear you; you're cutting out; I'm only catching every third syllable" etc, never used to be a regular part of phone conversations! :-)

    Thanks again.

They will provide either an adapter or you may find that the phone can be provided from the cabinet to which it is connected in a similar manner to which it is at the moment but with the adapter in the cabinet.

The world wont stop, and there will be a solution for those who dont or wont have a broadband connection.

If the idiots in the Daily Mail and other publications put some effort into finding how stuff actually works, rather than just producing click-bait then we wouldn't have the even less informed regurgitating some of the guff that being promulgated

If people put a bit more effort into actually researching and understanding what is going on rather than just looking at headlines then there'd be a lot less disinformation being spread around scaring people.

TBH I really despair when I read what ends up in the paper, on TV or even worse, from some of the morons on Facebook, TickTock and the like and then see a comment like the one above. which is already floating around other forum threads.

it is a foul up in a country where power infrastructure is not resilient, and many do not have or cannot have access to a mobile phone. Yes the change needs doing but engineers worthy of the name make sure they don't make things worse.

I'm sure the engineers would agree if the accountants would let them spend the money required
    Aha, the bottom line.!!!!
