Hello,

Its car insurance renewal time... By the time of renewal I will have 3 points for a LC20 and I also have a DR10 from 2020. I am 20 years old with a 2014 Audi A3 1.4. I have been paying £440 a month for the past year but I am just looking if anyone has any tips or tricks or recommendations of what providers to give a shot. I am looking for policies with NO blackbox.

Thanks

Having both a drink driving charge and a driving outside the terms of your license and being 20 years old a premium of £5,240 doesnt sound that bad...

You are paying by installments... what interest rate are you paying? Many charge much higher interest than a credit card and clearly if you could get a 0% credit card and pay it off in 12 months then you'd save a fair amount.

Other than that its simply shopping around but knowing being young with two more serious endorsements on your license you are going to get very high quotes.

You probably need a specialist insurance broker rather than the standard fair - Google is the only suggestion i can make for that. Oh, and maybe sell your car for something very slow and boring like a horse.

£5000+ a year 😱😱 Given you’re only 20 and with those markers against you already I think you should consider scaling back - downgrade the car and learn to drive properly. The fact that you don’t want any black box intervention suggests you perhaps have a hung-ho attitude to driving.
Not sure you’ll find too many sympathetic insurers

Thanks for your help, where I live is pretty rural and taxis are not reliable at all.

    Hi

If OP wants to drive, possibly consider a car that attracts lower premiums will certainly help reduce the premium

    Note

If you've had a string of claims or accidents, you have a medical condition that affects your driving, or you've four or more points on your licence, you may find it hard to get an affordable quote from a comparison site. Some may find it hard to get cover at all.

If no or few insurers are quoting on the sites above, or premiums are coming back too high, consider enlisting the help of a broker. Search the British Insurance Brokers' Association website to find someone who can help.

I don't want to sound like an old fart, but you can't dodge the consequences of your actions and expect to carry on as normal.
No matter what it is in life, it's not going to happen.

As suggested you could change your car to something in the lowest insurance group.
The differance between what you have now and a lowest group car will be a few hundred quid but they killer part of your premium is the loading the insurance company have put on it because of the DR10 and LC20 and they are going to stick that on to some degree for the next few years.

You could try some specialist brokers, but you probably won't get the same sort of cover.
You'll likely have to agree to a massive excess or even all sections excess policy, with a massive excess for each section and if your past is any reflection on your future, that could leave you with some bigger bills to pay than your current policy.

Another approach might be to show some evidence of reform, perhaps an advanced driver course.
It wouldn't save you a massive amount but you will get a few percent discount each year.
As your premium is so large, that few percent could add up over the next few years.

£440 a month in insurance is steep, but it's probably going to get worse if you insist on not having a black box.

For that kind of money (plus maintenance, tax, depreciation, fuel, etc) I'd seriously consider going without a car for a few years until some of the points drop off and you've got a longer driving history.

Other than that, your own real option is to get a car that's a much lower insurance group and get a black box. It'll save you something but given your terrible driving record already I'd expect you'll still be paying a fortune.
