EDF Monthly / 6 Monthly Bills

Does anyone know if you have the right to a monthly bill instead of twice a year?

I pay by Direct Debit and want to keep the average monthly payment, but EDF says they will only send me a monthly bill if I pay it in full.

Agree really irritating and so old fashioned.

They won't set up monthly for you  - unless you opt for a monthly variable DD tariff.

But go to chat and ask for a statement - they will try to put you off and warn that it will cause a DD revision.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I agree 6 months is annoying but nothing you can't work out in 2 mins on your calculator each month

I moved from Bulb to EDF in January due to EDFs attractive pricing.  However, their billing method is one of the things I really do not like with EDF.  Bulb was great on that front.  EDF is out of the ark.

Luckily, I use a spreadsheet and keep a monthly reading on the same day of each month and can work out my use and averages etc better than EDF and I can see what I need to pay.  But I do miss that monthly bill.

  • The annoying 6 month billing is one of (many) reasons I was delighted to leave EDF!

You do not have any right to that no, within the limits of their license they can bill you how they want, every six months on fixed/budget Direct Debit, or monthly on variable/whole bill are compliant.
  • Our office electricity is with EDF, they bill us monthly, they obviously treat businesses and homes differently.

If you ring them up they will  manually generate a bill for you. And you can do this every month.

I did this yesterday and bill is there today, you will need an reading from day you do it.

Person on call was really helpfull

You will also need to ask them not to recalculate your direct debit when you do it, so you dont end up underpaying with a lower DD. ( reduced becuase you have a higher credit balance for winter etc)

Ofgem only requires the supplier to bill once per year, so EDF is billing twice as often as per requirement.

So no, you have no right to be billed monthly.

You can get a monthly billing either by paying on receipt of bill (7 to 9% more expensive unit rates) or by going onto whole amount monthly direct debit, you keep the direct debit discount, but you need to budget yourself to ensur eyou have thr money for big bills in winter.

But as i said, if you ring them every month they are happy to generate a bill for you, just remember to ask that direct debit is not recalulated.

Which says more about the useless OFGEM than EDF.  Monthly billing is pretty much a must have for a lot of people in the current situation but the useless regulator cannot see what is in front of it until it all goes wrong.
