Eon to OVO switch has messed up, don't know what to do

I organised, or thought I had, to switch from Eon to OVO for Electricity and Gas.

All seemed fine and it was organised to go through on 31st Jan. OVO also took the first DD payment of £287 for this around that date.

I kept getting emails from EON suggesting that they were still supplying the electricity, so i called them and they said they were still waiting on the final reading from OVO for that, but the guy looked at the smart meter reading while i was on the phone and and told me what the charge was up to 31/1. So i thought all was sorted. 

I have subsequently received a bill from EON today for electricity supply from 1/2 to 20/2. So I called OVO and they are saying that the switch never happened for some reason and they would refund me £267 and cancel everything. If I wanted to set it up id need to start again. The £267 is the £287 minus the daily Gas charge, but they are saying they haven't been supplying me Electricity or Gas at all. 

I asked if they hadn't been supplying me Gas why are they deducting a standing charge, but the guy seemed unable to answer that and just gave me a claim reference.

So I think I am currently not being supplied Gas by anyone as Eon seemed to think this went through, and Electricity by Eon. All arrangement with OVO seems to be cancelled according to todays call.

What should I do as I dont know who my current energy supplier is and who are likely to realise they haven't charged me for gas and send me a bill for 1/2-20/2?

    That says gas supplier is OVO, didn't say anything about Electricity

    I think OVO was the previous owners gas supplier too, so that may relate to them?

    I only moved in on 20/1 - originally planned on having EON so transferred them over from previous house but then tried to do the change to OVO

    Once on the network operators page they should have a search for supplier tool

    Bizarrely EON have just been out to ready the gas meter!

    Im so confused - OVOs refund will apparently take 10 days!

    Did you receive the £67 from Eon?

    At the moment it is not a great idea to do a switch on the last of the month, it might mess up the EBSS payment.

    Not in your case, as the switch never happened, so EON should credited you with it.
  • Who was/ were the supplier(s) for both utilities when you moved in on 20th January? 
    Did you give opening meter reads to the supplier(s) when you moved in and before you attempted to switch to a new supplier?

    When i moved in i took Eon with me from my previous property and gave them opening readings on the 20th.

    It was on the 23rd or 24th i decided to start the switch to OVO, who advised that that would take place on 31st. And i gave them opening readings on the 31st. It just didn't go through for some reason. OVO customer services cant seem to tell me.

    Currently i don't know who is supplying the gas as Eon don't seem to know and OVO are saying the switch to them didn't complete. The Electricity switch doesn't seem to have happened at all as still seems to be with Eon

    i think that might be the problem. ovo would have been your 'deemed' supplier if they were the previous occupiers supplier. (you can't actually 'move' a supplier with you as they supply the house not the person). 

    so when you 'moved' with eon you were actually asking eon to take over the supply to the house as if you had switched to them. if the eon switch you started when you moved was still in progress then you tried to move 'back' to ovo then that's what probably caused the mess.

    we saw the same kind of thing when the energy suppliers were going bust and people were trying to switch away. you need to let the dust settle and wait for the databases to update to show who has your supply. 

    in the mean time keep track of your use and put cash on one side. in a few weeks check the links again and it should show who your supplier is. then contact them and say you moved in on x date. here are the readings from that date. can i set up an account please. once you have your first bill from them and have paid it THEN look at moving both supplies together to who you want.

    Ok so I thought I sorted this last week. I called Eon again and explained to the person I got this time and they said oh, ill just move your gas back to us and it should happen on 28th. 

    I had an email this morning saying "your energy is now with us", great i though all sorted. But the email only shows electricity! Which was already seemed to still with Eon!

    Hopefully i get another one later about the Gas!

    Ahhh - OK - so winding back to the beginning here, when you first moved in did you contact the existing supplier and give them your moving-in meter readings? And did you wait for them to get you an account set up before you tried to switch back to your previous supplier from your old property? If not - that is why the switch has failed!
