Yes, but you pay a lot for them, and generally you can only get them through the maker - laptops are a lot less standardised than PCs.
You might want to see if your house contents insurance covers this, or if you only ever use it at home buy a separate monitor. 14" CRTs and LCDs are now dirty cheap.te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
One other option is to try and find the same model on ebay that is broken in some other way than build one good one from the two. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

So he could just buy a cheap monitor and connect it to the laptop - he mainly users it at home so they could be the cheapest option.

Just check that you have a standard monitor port on the laptop! It's generally blue, male (sticks out) and has three rows of five pins. Check your system manuals for info on how to enable the output.te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0

If you are unable to see anything on the laptop screen you may have problems selecting the output on to the monitor. On my laptop you use the Fn key in conjunction with a function key ie (F4) your laptop will have a similar set up the manual will be able to advise the correct key sequence.0

If you're prepared to use a stand alone monitor and have the space, have a look on freecycle. People regularly give away old CRT moniotrs. That would be the cheapest solution of all. It's my problem, it's my problem

There are usually any amount of ebay sellers who specialise in breaking up laptops or LCD screens.
Plug in the laptop name and lcd into ebay will usually throw up a handful of results0 -
The option to obtain a replacement is all very well and good. I have changed 2 laptop screens and its not a job for a novice or diy'er.
So the OP unless knowledgeable would have all sorts of problems and would need to pay someone to do the actual swap over this should be factored into any overall costs.
(you need to disassemble the screen and also remove the keyboard to get at the ribbon cable connectors, the screen surround is very flimsy and its easy to damage the plastic securing tabs. Also ensure when carrying out this repair of the static hazards.)0 -
If you are going to attempt to change any parts on a laptop, especially the LCD, ALWAYS,ALWAYS remove the battery. I know this from expensive experience. Even when switched off there is live power all around a laptop.0
