Anyone who can help.

The building owner of the block of flats where I live is named as a 36000 Water Collection, treatment and supply.

The hot water comes straight into the flat I do not have a boiler.

I am being charged £4.40 (plus Vat) standing charge a day plus £0.42 £kWh (plus Vat) unit charge.

I live in a one bedroom flat, I also pay Octopus Energy for the Electricity used and Affinity for Water which also a 36000 Water Collection, treatment and supply.

Is there a cap on this hot water charge?

Is there anything I can do?

I am disabled and in receipt of Personal Independent Payments & ESA support group.

I also get housing benefit and cheaper council tax.

Regards

David

  • Thank you.

I guess what I'm asking is does this hot water bill by way of a 36000 company. Water Collection, treatment and supply. Have a limit to what it can charge along with my standard electricity bill and water Affinity Water Limited which is also a 36000 company. Water Collection, treatment and supply?

If this is a district heating scheme, then the water is heated by an HIU in the property from which the energy extracted for heating and hot water is metered within the property. You are not billed for the water passing around the heating system, as this is a sealed recirculating system. You are being billed by Affinity for the cold and hot water you use from the taps, and for it's drainage.
So the water bill is no different to how you would be billed in a conventional property.
District heating schemes are not regulated and will depend on the commercial contract that the LL or management company have negotiated with the gas supplier.

  • Dear Macman,

    Thank you.

The bill is as you said, under a District Heating Scheme.

It seems the government and Mayor are aware of the problem.
