Pretty sure that isn't anything to do with Freebear, if you do an internet search for that image it shows up in many places, e.g.:

When adding a first floor to a single story kitchen we found a well under the threshold of our house when changing a door to a window. About 15' deep with water at the bottom and 3'6" diameter. It was covered only with a single sheet of hardboard about 1' down, topped with a covering of rubble then finished with concrete
This extension was done in 1978 and we found it in 1984. The hardboard was nearly rotten and bending. The BC inspector nearly had a fit! He insisted on us having a survey on the whole of the extension to check for other faults. There were several.

The well was filled with rubble and capped with metal mesh and beams.

Unfortunately in the wrong place to make into a feature.

Much as I would love to have one, that photo isn't mine.
Miss doozergirl would be the best person here to ask about the details.

    Yup, that's a well.

That's fab. A friend had one in the kitchen of their old house, covered in suitable glass, and lit. Terrific when the light was switched on.

It would be a shame to have to fill it.

That is really cool ! When I bought my house I completely dug over the garden while landscaping it and was hoping to find something interesting ( buried treasure hoard, roman mosaic, secret bunker etc... ). All I found were bricks and some old rusty cans !

I would definitely try and make a feature of it as its part of the history of the house
  • Is it an actual well or a sort water tank ??
