If I set up an account to pay ULEZ charges and link a mobile no to it will I receive a notification to my mobile phone each time I enter the zone in a non-compliant car and a charge is applied.
I see there is a 'TfL Pay to Drive in London' app but according to the reviews on Google Play it is useless.

I have the autopay setup, but I've never had a notification, I only know about it when they email to say I have a statement, then I login to look to see if anything is on it.

The ULEZ system is a crazy one in that it can't (or won't) tell you that your car has entered the zone and a charge is due. The first you'd know is receiving an £80 penalty. When the charge runs past midnight if you are anywhere close to that time you could end up paying twice to avoid a penalty.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

You get until midnight on the third day after entering the zone. The ANPR cameras don't work in real time, so you'd never get an instant alert anyway.
If you are going to enter regularly, just set up Autopay and you won't have to remember to pay manually.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

😂😂 where would the fun be in telling a non-compliant driver they’d been into ULEZ and should pay, when they could simply leave it a few days and send them a whopping great penalty charge. You only need to look at the amount of money Khan is raking in to see there’s no benefit to him to advise folk.

Unless you set up autopay first. Auto Pay - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)
  • Oh my goodness, what a shambles this sounds.

TFL know when your vehicle enters the zone but does not tell you that they have applied a £12.50 charge. When I spend anything using Paypal or my Barclays debit card I receive an instant notification. Why should TFL be any different.

Does the 'TfL Pay to Drive in London' app list the dates for which you are being charged or do you just get a total amount.

Does the statement detail the dates for which you have been charged?

Again, sign up for autopay and it will just pay whenever you drive into the zone.

Otherwise if you have never given them any details how are they meant to notify you? They need to get your details from DVLA to send a fine. Only way they can notify you otherwise is if you contact them first and set up autopay.

Not sure how the app works - we live a mile outside the existing zone but have only entered it twice since it came into being and that was to drop a neighbour off at local hospital for her chemo. We’re due to be swallowed up by the the expanded zone in August
