Autorenewal by credit card

Some companies are using autorenewal and then hiding.
Kaspersky, in particular, makes cancellation of the autorenewal almost impossible:
using uncertainty as to whether the client is contracting with Kaspersky or Digital River
making the cancelling of autorenewal non-functional
having a series of broken URL
responding (curiously) as Lenovo when the supplier is Kaspersky
I have that resolved at last after some hours of trying different methods.
Now I have a similar problem with MyHeritage, which has overcharged me.
Essentially, MyHeritage appears to be non-contactable by published means.
Can I go to Barclaycard to recover my money when a company is not behaving responsibly? I must remember not to set up autorenewals in future.

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

If you were charged just because you forgot to cancel, no. If you were charged more than you had agreed to pay, then that might be something your card provider can help you with, although it's best to exhaust all avenues of sorting it with the company first.

That is good advice. Thank you. I am unsure whether MyHeritage is a one-man band or a medium-sized company.jpsartre said:Sterlingtimes said:Can I go to Barclaycard to recover my money when a company is not behaving responsibly? I must remember not to set up autorenewals in future.

You can only claim your money back if you have cancelled & they have then taken further funds.Sterlingtimes said:Some companies are using autorenewal and then hiding.

It's not a one man band, but is based in Israel. There are 524 people on LinkedIn that currently state they work of the company.Sterlingtimes said:

Thank you, all. MyHeritage provides a good product but has dreadful customer service. I waited an hour on Monday on the 'phone, during which I made no advancement from position seven in the queue.
I resolved the matter by writing a negative report at TrustPilot. Very quickly, they provided me with a "VIPSUPPORT CONTACT". They resolved the matter within an hour, and I deleted my negative report.
I am worried about autorenewals, particularly when there is no easy way of rescinding them. Regarding bank interventions, I wonder whether a debit card is preferable to a credit card.

It is exactly the same process on both. You only have protection if cancelled & they debit again. You can inform bank/CC to cancel the payments going forward, but bank do not inform company. So in effect your contract is still live & company can chse for funds.Sterlingtimes said:Thank you, all. MyHeritage provides a good product but has dreadful customer service. Please do not believe people who simply say "Cancel your card" that will stop them. It does not. As Visa & Mastercard have update systems that allow retailers to request the new card number to carry on debiting.👍

You can cancel.the CPA with your card isduer...
You have the right to cancel them directly with your bank or card issuer by telling it you have stopped permission for the payments. Your bank or card issuer must then stop them – it has no right to insist that you agree this first with the company taking the payments.

That is a very helpful posting. I didn't know that "auto-renewal" is CPA.km1500 said:You can cancel.the CPA with your card isduer...

In my case, MyHeritage made an OFFER by email for me to renew at the price of £130.80.
I ACCEPTED the OFFER by allowing MyHeritage to auto-renew. But they went on to take £226.80 from my credit card and then made contact difficult.
I think that MyHeritage made a mistake, whereas Kaspersky has been mischievous.
I am inclined to cancel these arrangements.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0
