So all fuses look intact , one fuse wire is gone ( the first one to the left) i have screwdriver and i can change it myself if thats all it is. Not sure where to buy it tho ? I can only see actual fuses nit wires. ThanksGDB2222 said:
Before you mess with that, have you actually checked that the fuse wires are intact in the fuses on the consumer unit, yet? That’s the obvious place to start.Agusya said:
What am I checking it for and how do I remove it? I tried to lift it but its not coming offmi-key said:
That looks like the cooker main switch. Does the red light come on when you switch it? If not, you need to check the fuse under the little panel in itAgusya said:
I took them out and back in. Ive already played with switching on and off switches. Nothing happens. Cooker has fuse next to switch button but Im not sure what to do with itBelenus said:In your final photo, there are what appear to be 5 fuses and 1 breaker.
Have you checked those fuses?
Do you know how to do that safely?
Do you have 30A fuse wire and a screwdriver?0 -

Or the first fuse, the left-most one? White?
Fuse wires on a card are available in Wickes diy stores https://www.wickes.co.uk/Fuse-Wire/p/255998, B&Q https://www.diy.com/departments/corelectric-fuse-wire-pack-of-3/1352423_BQ.prd, Wiko https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-fuse-wire-set/p/0309965 and many other places.
But I'm now wondering if you are competent to even undertake that simple task.
Do call an electrician or three in to quote for consumer unit replacement if you are owner-occupier. If a tenant encourage your landlord to do so.0 -

Rodders53 was referring to the fuse, not the fuse box.Agusya said:

It's not visibly clear what rating that fuse is, so how will you know which fuse wire to use. 5A, 15A, 30A?
These ancient fuses are obsolete and probably in excess of 50 years old, they need replacing with plug-in MCB's.No free lunch, and no free laptop

thanks everyone. if it was the fuse wire I would be able to change it but its more serious problem. I had an electrician over and its a burnt wire and he couldnt find it on outside ones so now I need to rewire

Very pleased you called the electrician in.
Are your washing machine etc working at all. ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Ouch... still the fuse did it's job and prevented a house fire.
DO get more than one quote for the rewire and new consumer unit.
Think if you need more sockets installed at the same time as it'll be most cost effective time to do that.1 -
I think the OP means that the sparky (who came out on a Sunday afternoon?) has suggested rewiring the faulty circuit-not necessarily the whole house?
If he couldn't find the 'burnt wire', then how does he know that is the cause? All he knows is that there is a fault on a cable or socket on that circuit that caused the fuse to operate. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Fuse was fine , I didnt check it right 😬 so basically all was fine then he checked with this tool if electricity is anywhere in the plugs and visible cables.
