Unacceptable increase in cost

Virgin Media have just increased my monthly payments by over 22% for Fibre M250, TV Package and PAYG Home phone.  Also removing the option to opt out of the contract from April next year, without exit charge if I disagree with next and subsequent years increase. That increase will be linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation plus an additional 3.9%.

Methinks Virgin have shot themselves in the foot as I am not prepared to accept the increase or, the changes in terms to the contract for further increases.  It smacks of giving them direct access to my Bank account assuming there is any money left in it.

At well over 80 years of age and carer for my disabled wife, I will seek other options don’t you think?  Now off to knock on the door of BT 😊

  • I've just rung and cancelled Sky. I negotiated a new deal end of last year as I had retired and was consolidating outgoings. Email today re an £8 per month rise. Enough is enough. All these companies just putting prices up, my water rates have rocketed, council tax about to jump and then all the other living cost increases. Something has had to give, and it's my Sky contract.

If you have negotiated a reduced price deal ,it will have a minimum term -usually 18 or 24 months  -Sky don't allow cancellation within this term - they will charge you the full price of the deal to the final date.

Call them and they will either credit the difference to cancel out the price rise or offer you a better deal.

I was paying £44 for M250, Maxit TV and weekend calls, reduced to £29 until the price rise when it returns to £44 a month
