That's just what I'm about to do... hopefully now have an electrician calling next week.Stubod said:..many thanks for this post...we are in the process of upgrading our 25+ years old heaters with some Dimplex Quantums....(assuming I can find an electrician to fit them!!)0 -
Curious did you get a Hub or go on the installers advice, that it wasn’t worth it? I’m thinking I might buy a Hub (I do like gadgets!!) wondering if £170 is worth it to control from my phone or iPad. I have three RFs that I use and another never switched it on. I only found a YouTube video of a man unboxing the hub but not going on to set it up, which is what I was interested in. I have downloaded the App for the hub but it doesn’t show me how it will work, obviously tells me nothing is set up, since I haven’t bought one yet.RedFraggle said:
The installer that did mine always fits the RF model so if you want a hub later you can but advises they're not really that useful as to all the Quantums are basically self adjusting. He said they're most useful in holiday let's and second homes where you may want to adjust without being in the property. I can also see an advantage here for elderly parents etc.danrv said:
The Quantum RF series have added WiFi ability when used with the Dimplex Hub.
Not sure how much is controllable but could be useful. Having to manually adjust several heaters for whatever reason could get a bit fiddly.
This illustrates how automated they are. This is the 7 day charge display for the one in the kitchen. I've not adjusted a thing manually. Some days it doesn't take a charge at all. That preceded the big charge on the 26th

@Stubod did you manage to upgrade? How is it going?0

..Hi Lilac..(and a happy new year!!). No we have not taken the plunge yet, still thinking about it. We spoke to our electrician and he was a bit non commital about the best way to go, although he did suggest if we were goimng to change that Quantums are probably worth payijg the extra for over the other makes he has installed. The problem for us is that as we a re now retired and at home all day we actually need a bit of heat "leakage" through out the day. ie we don't really need super efficient insulation, and we don't really need all the (many) programming options. We just need a gentle heat through the day, so not sure whether or not the Quantums would offer anything significantly better than what we have now??....so the jury is still out!.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0

I recently upgraded to 2 x Dimpex Quantum QM150RF's. The heat 'leakage' is sufficient enough to heat my whole flat without having to set the timer for the fan's. I've not needed to set the heater to ON due to the residual heat that's released, I manually set to charge 4 hours every night, which is suffice. If you are looking to join the Dimplex/ British Gas special Economy 7 tariff, make the your Quantums are Series G9 or higher. I was sold G7 models last month and now waiting for them to be updated.Stubod said:..Hi Lilac..(and a happy new year!!). No we have not taken the plunge yet, still thinking about it. Happy new year to you too! I had one electrician who was dead set on ripping out the storage heaters and replacing them with Rointe radiators but although I think they'll be a lot easier I also think they'll be more expensive in the long run. My other electrician was far more positive about Quantums though.Stubod said:..Hi Lilac..(and a happy new year!!). No we have not taken the plunge yet, still thinking about it. That's so unfair, isn't it? Presumably, as I will have one brand new Quantum, one not-sure-which-series Quantum and 1 old but fan assisted Dimplex storage heater, I wouldn't qualify. Can you point me in the direction of the T&Cs for BG, please? Or did you have to phone them to get the correct info?Taff76 said:

I know! Electrician was trying to sell them to me on the strength that they were much better as it would be like having a proper central heating system … I said E7 more economical though!QrizB said:lilac_dawn said:... As long as you have 1 quantum series 9 or higher and the hub you should be good.lilac_dawn said:

Just Google British Gas & Dimplex and the British Gas page should show and there's a phone number on the page also.
Just make sure you get Quantum series 9 or higher!
