SDLT HMRC Refund

I received a letter from a  company advising they would act on my behalf stating "Potential Stamp Tax Refund"
I recently moved home and purchased the new house in Oct 2022. Just wanted to know if this is correct i.e. recover some of the stanp duty paid,
Also is this something I can do myself?
Thanks

You paid higher rate stamp duty? There are circumstances in which this can be reclaimed - or rather, the portion over and above the standard rate, can. Don't pay a company to claim it for you though - it's a fairly straightforward process if you meet the criteria!

Why would you ever use a company that made an unsolicited contact?

Why do you think you might be due a SDLT refund?

Perhaps the particulars of sale for new house say that it has an annexe?
  • Provided you are entitled to a (partial) refund, no reason not to claim it yourself.

Or if in doubt, ask the conveyancer you used at the time.
