Permitted work on ESA contributions based - occasional income

Hi. I am in receipt of contributions based ESA / New Style. I am in the support group and my health won't improve so a few hours each week is the maximum I would be able to do. What are the rules for doing permitted work on a self-employed basis? I would be likely to earn up to £3000 but it would all come in a single payment (one piece of commissioned creative work) after doing a few hours each week over a year or so. Could this fit with the permitted work rules? Obviously I would be registered as self-employed for gross earnings over £1000. I am concerned that this wouldn't fit with the usual cycle of 4 weeks or a month for income that is usually used for benefits.

Self employment earnings are generally based on annual earnings.

Are you excluded from UC?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Thanks. I will have a wade through though a quick search shows there is no ref to permitted work. Perhaps the assessment period info might be helpful. Re UC, yes at present but probably won't be by the time I have any earnings as I will also have other income. A good point to bear in mind though if there's a possibility to switch.... though the ability to save without penalties is a negative.calcotti said:Self employment earnings are generally based on annual earnings.

Contributions based ESA/New style ESA will never be part of UC. If you claim UC your ESA will simply continue but be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.samk777 said:

That guidance I referenced is about how to calculate self employed earnings. The earnings so calculated are then used to assess whether or not the self employed earner is within the PW limit.samk777 said:
