HMRC - how to contact ?

I need to get my mothers PAYE coding amended as she now qualifies for blind persons allowance. She doesn’t have a personal tax account, not meeting any of the requirements needed to register (no passport, drivers licence etc etc) so it seems the only means of contact is by ‘phone. Called once, listened to all the spiel, cut off. Called back, listened to a bit more spiel, “we’re putting you through”, holding, cut off. Called third time, spiel, holding and holding . . . . .

Presumably you are calling the right HMRC number https://www.gov.uk/blind-persons-allowance/how-to-claim ?0

Yes, thank you. Been trying main number 3300 as well, no joy there either. Suspect they’re the same line though since both appear on my phone as recent calls to the same number.1

Call first thing when lines open. Start dialling shortly before the trime to be at the front of the queue. You may get an answer as some people may start work earlier.
But, unless HMRC will not deal with you without authority from your mother.

@ sheramber, it’s irrelevant if they’ll speak to me if I can’t get through to them 😏
Will persevere on the numbers I’ve got0 -
Good luck

According to a Public Accounts Committee report, HMRC has reduced customer-facing staff from 25,500 to 19,500 over the past five years as it "moved more customers to digital systems".
HMRC said it was responding to most correspondence within 15 days.
It added that it was "successfully answering about 70,000 calls a day" and "our customer satisfaction is consistently around 80%".

It's also gonig to be a big waste of time on your part if you spend hours trying to get through only to be told once you do that they won;t speak to you unless they are either already aware that you are your mothers appointee or your mother is in the room with you to answer security questions and give her permission.

Try writing to them, it might take a bit of time to reply, but they do eventually. I’ve been having similar problems but have had responses by post.0
