Thinking of DIY something like this pic. Anyone done this? Where did you source the parts, any major problems?

Not a good idea if you have pets either. Looks lovely.............but cleaning that every day?I've seen outdoor glass put in but by a professional who owned it. And you can blame the weather for the marks.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

We're having one fitted next month but by a joiner not DIY so can't help you with suppliers. I have an awful 60s ranch style at the moment so can't wait to see the improvement.2

We went to see a period house that is being renovated by a developer. They had ripped out the beautiful Arts and Crafts balustrade and were about to replace it with glass. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

My son has just done his, took him ages to remove the paint of the banister and the rest of the woodwork and sand it all down ,stain and varnish then fit the glas ,looks good mind.1

We are having one designed at the moment as we're replacing 60s open tread staircase with more conventional solid stairs. What we are doing is having the glass run up only as far as the hall ceiling, in order that there's no glass further up with wall behind that can't be repainted. The glass will be templated to fit our particular stairs. This is involving having the oak handrail blending into the hall ceiling. Carpenter will be working on achieving this from tomorrow. Certainly not something I'd attempt to DIY, the carpenter is saying it's going to be challenging, and he's very good at what he does.We don't have the issue of children and I can't see the cat being a major problem.ETA there's a company called Stair Furb that supply kits so you can DIY straightforward stuff.Make £2025 in 2025
