  • I left my older two at around 11 when I was working. In fact once my daughter was 13, she was left in charge of younger siblings. Both very sensible.

My current 13yr old is OK to be left up to an hour. He is autistic and doesn't react predictably to emergencies. In fact we got my 14yr old neice to 'babysit' him and his 10yr old brother one sat eve. She is 10wks older than him! But she is super sensible and reliable.

My younger two are at home with my husband in the holidays as he works from home. I don't think he even sees them. They sit up in their bedroom and are themselves lunch and don't seem to get bored.

Should be manageable to leave him, at this age. Mine went to secondary school in the year of turning 12 and would be at home in the holidays. OH and i work full time. One of us would phone at lunchtime, or as near as possible, to check on her. We had some ground rules around not answering the door and what to do in an emergency.

I left mine at home at that age, I actually used to change my shifts in the holidays to start early and finish late lunchtime as I felt so bad leaving them for long, however it I ended up considering it a success if they were up when I got home 😆  I should add they are normal hardworking humans with jobs now, so no lasting damage 😉
