Three and BT broadband

So currently with BT and out of contract. Now £38 month for fibre 2 with landline going to £44 after April. Fibre to cabinet only so 15mb / 0.5mb if lucky. Thinking of going to three home broadband as mast at top of Road and giving up landlines. Question is, should three hike prices later how expensive is it to get broadband back, and if eventually BT get fibre to house will they install. We have duct for cable to property.  Interested in your thoughts and experiences.

I use 3 mobile broadband. Your best bet is to buy some preloaded data only sim cards and a dongle and try out how good the connection is. After a recent mast upgrade I'm typically getting around 15mb but it can vary a lot with the weather. Slowest was 4mb and fastest was 39mb. I got an £18 a month deal for unlimited data with 6 months half price in early January but prices are rising by about 13% in April.

What sort of speeds do you get with your mobile phone, that would give you some idea of what is possible.

We've got a Huawei 4g Router which we take away in the caravan and have had speeds as high as 50mbt/s and as low as nothing depending on where we are.

Where we live in the Cambridgeshire fens I can get 25-30mbits with Three, a bit less with EE, nothing with O2 and I've not tried Vodafone. I've also tried the router with Three in the village about four miles away and there's nowt with Three, and my phone which uses Three is a a bit iffy there as well.

My mate has borrowed it to see what he can get at his holiday home in North Norfolk, 15mbit/s with Vodafone and absolutely nothing with Three, EE or O2.

In the end you really do have to try it out to see what sort of service you can get. Preloaded or Paygo data sims are a cheap way to do it

Could I ask why you use a separate 4G router rather than using your mobile phone as a hotspot?

I think my tesco mobile contract would cost a lot more with the data I'd use streaming.

You will be running down the battery or if keeping it plugged in wearing the battery.
Speeds will fluctuate much more on a mobile.
Hotspots don't have a good range
    Lots more reasons as well

Mobile hotspot is ok for short periods if your mobile is near the device you are using, but is not a long term solution.

    Hello,
I moved from Virgin (100mb £42 but rising to £49) to 3 mobile broadband (£20 and free for first 3 months, 24 month contract). New service where I am is fast enough for me (between 5 and 25mb, but normally about 11mb), I can stream movies/TV which is the most intensive thing I do. Over the contract I will save £750+. Result, and I do not notice the difference in speed. Most complicated thing was getting the old supplier to understand I really was leaving..

If you get it through TCB, it is £68 cashback with 6 months half price. £20 x 24 months.

This work out £14 a month even you factor 15% uplift in year 2.

You have 14 days cooling off period.
