I'm trapped by Virgin

I've had the same email address since the last century and I don't want to lose it as it accesses just about everything in my life as my username, [which I don't seem to be able to change] and all my friends have it. But it is linked to my Virgin account, and I want to leave Virgin because they are sooooo expensive, and nowhere near as fast as they claim to be for the money. Any suggestions? [I already have a gmail account, but that doesnt solve the problem]

I believe martin briefly mentioned this on his show last night, maybe have a quick watch of that?As you already have a Gmail account I suggest you start the long process of moving all your accesses to that email address (I think this is what Martin suggested).2

Where your Virgin email address is a sign-in, many sites will change your sign-in when you update your email address. Others you may find you can still sign in using the Virgin email address but they'll communicate to your new email when you've updated it.
Once you've set yourself up on gmail or other non-affiliated email you have broken free and hopefully won't have this issue again.
You will have to move at some point unless you plan to be with Virgin for life so I would suggest getting on and doing it.
Good luck! It's not that difficult but there's bound to be the odd hiccup. Focus on the endgame of being free from Virgin.2
