This is exactly right - you can request as many PAC codes as you want, but this does not cancel.the service with your supplier. You need to use the code. If you don't use it things stay the same.

"You need to use the code. If you don't use it things stay the same."

But at the start of the thread,
"We had a few issues with the PAC code not working and in the end we just switched the SIM over"

If the op gave the correct pac to the new provider and they had a problem actioning it, shouldn't they have made clear that the port had not gone through so the contract hadn't cancelled. Best guess is it is because it is a vodafone to vodafone port and they should be aware of that.

Actually presuming "We just switched the sim over" means used the new sim and the number it came with?

Yep agree - the new provider should have. The OP should have know though - did they get their original number transferred or not ?

A merchant such as Vodafone can't cancel the DD mandate itself at your bank, only you can do that, so if it's not there anymore then it won't have been Vodafone's doing - they can stop taking DDs against that mandate but that's a separate issue.
Ive had DD's cancelled by retailers etc before. Most recently Virgin Media cancelled my DD on one bank account because I changed the DD to come out of another.

Similarly Tesco Bank etc have cancelled DD's before when Ive cancelled insurance policies mid way through etc.
Yes, I've had quite a few cancelled at the conclusion of loan agreements. Also at the end of a mortgage.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
