Checking who cancelled the direct debit ….

Hi Mse people
looking for some advice please.
looking for some advice please.
Background info: i recently changed a SIM only deal from Vodafone to VOXI For my daughter in Sept. We had a few issues with the PAC code not working and in the end we just switched the SIM over and she took the new VOXI number. As I requested a PAC code from Vodafone that was my notice to them to say ‘I’m Leaving’
Vodafone have now said that I have missed three DD payments since then and it’s negatively affected my credit rating. I’ve cleared the back payments now and closed the account BUT something is bothering me….. I don’t actually recall cancelling the direct debit with my bank. (Im going to try and check tomorrow) If this is the case then is it not Vodafone that are the wrong here as they have attempted to close the account and stopped the direct direct as I initially wanted but some other payments team within that organisation is trying to take the money and not being successful, hence the back payment issue.
I want to know if I can check with my bank WHO stopped the DD. If it was me then Ok they may have a case bug if it was Vodafone then the negative affect on my credit rating is false and I should get it removed.
Amazing what effect a £130 missed payment can have on your credibility !
Thanks in advance
andy

I don't know if it's possible to check, but Vodafone had absolutely no reason to cancel it.Requesting a PAC means nothing. You may use it or not. Only if/when it's used the contract gets terminated and the DD can be cancelled by the provider. Even then for the customer it's still early to cancel it because the final payment can be taken later.I'm not saying that it was definitely you who cancelled the DD, but your story is very typical. It's usually a customer who cancels the DD too early and then has problems with missed payment(s).3

A merchant such as Vodafone can't cancel the DD mandate itself at your bank, only you can do that, so if it's not there anymore then it won't have been Vodafone's doing - they can stop taking DDs against that mandate but that's a separate issue.3

"We had a few issues with the PAC code not working and in the end we just switched the SIM over"If you received a pac and gave it to your new provider you did your part of the bargain. Exactly what were the issues you had? However your contract would only terminate once your number was transferred so once you decided to keep the voxi number you needed to request a STAC for your old account instead and give that to voxi, or get a free sim from another provider and get them to arrange the STAC.1

Thanks everyone - I’m going to check with the bank tomorrow - if I didn’t cancel the DD why didn’t the payments just continue is my thoughts.0

Easy to check if the DD still exists via online banking, assuming you have that. But the implication is that it doesn't exist and that you cancelled it.
Whether or not the DD exists you probably do owe Vodafone the cash if the contract wasn't cancelled (if you didn't use the PAC it wouldn't be cancelled).1 -
Moving between vodafone and voxi may nor be the same as porting between ee and o2 for instance, as voxi is owned by vodafone. This webpage suggests you don't even need a new sim;So that might be the reason for the issues with porting your old number (although voxi would have recognised a VOD pac and should have told you if there was a problem)1

Similarly Tesco Bank etc have cancelled DD's before when Ive cancelled insurance policies mid way through etc.FTB - April 20200 -
20 years ago my brother had a DD issue, took out a contract but Vodafone did not take the DD.
They wanted Too go too court over it.
That was until his bank confirmed in writing that Vodafone had not requested the funds.
They backed down very quickly.1 -
