Just out of interest I watched part of a programme on the TV at Christmas about Bicester village which is a discount place. They stated that many designer brands produce genuine goods for their outlet but at a slightly lesser quality, so they showed genuine Ugg boots without a second heel patch , just a stitched line . The reason I mention it here is because brands also used different buttons depending on whether item is designed for the high street or for an outlet, and one brand particularly mentioned they used plain buttons on outlet goods and buttons with logos for their main stores.

According to Vinted they charge the buyer a protection fee to cover not as described including "Any other visible flaw that wasn’t detailed in the listing" but you only have 2 days to raise a claim so need to be quick if you are still in time OP :)

I guess Vinted will decide whether the issue the buttons meets their requirements to be covered by their policy.
There is a buyer protection fee.  However this is not compulsory, the buyer can choose whether to take it or not and the cost is added on to the buying cost.

I thought it was compulsory , I haven’t bought much but the buyer protection was added automatically and couldn’t be removed.

Whatever happens buyer would need to return item at their own cost anyway.

Buy better buttons that you prefer and put them on the coat.

Even if the buttons are small, it may turn out quite pricy for the OP to replace 24 buttons.
Especially if it is done by a professional.
In the end I bought a coat from Air Ambulance charity shop for £2.00.
I got 10 buttons of the right size and colour.
Which could be why the previous owner used cheaper buttons.

The OP bought a designer coat, second hand and cheaper than an original and may have been priced to reflect the fact that the buttons were not original.
It depends how much the buttons mean to them as to whether the cost of replacing them is worthwhile.

Maybe it wasn't the last previous owner who changed the buttons.
Maybe it was the original purchaser who changed he buttons and the last owner wasn't even aware that the buttons had been changed and therefore couldn't price to reflect that fact.

Further to my previous post, the buyer protection fee is definitely compulsory but doesn’t seem to serve any purpose .

Hi. This is a bit of an odd one. I was looking for a vintage designer coat from a brand that does not exist anymore. Managed to find one on Vinted for a fair price. Looking at photos it was a good condition, looked after etc. When it arrived, on closer inspection I have noticed that this coat does not look like the original one made by the brand. Since it was designer brand they had they logo printed on every button etc. This coat has completely different buttons. No logo. Looks like they were all replaced ( maybe due to one being lost), not sure. It was not mentioned in the description that the coat was repaired or anything. The pictures were in it's current state - so with different buttons on it. However the pictures were not close up so it was difficult to see.

My question is, where do I stand with this - is the item considered a fake if it has been modified or does it count as a repair. It has a label on it but the part of label which has sizing is missing and some stitching is coming off. Otherwise item looks as original coat. Not sure what to do?
Well it's not a fake it's just a genuine item that has had the buttons replaced.

Do you still want it as is? Or do you want to return it?

If the latter and the seller isn't accomodating then I think all you can do is raise the matter with Vinted - tell them that the item is not as original as the buttons have been replaced, that it wasn't specified in the description, you aren't happy with it and want to return it.

If they go along with you then great and if they don't then i think you are stuck with the coat.
  • You've been looking for this particular vintage designer jacket from a brand that doesn't even exist any more. Managed to find one in your size in good condition, and you want to return it because the buttons are slightly different to what you expected? These jackets surely don't come around too often? Why don't you just buy some buttons that you are happy with.
